About this ebook

When a lonely man named Eric meets a mysterious and wealthy stranger named Ari on a singles cruise who offers him an outrageous proposal, Eric is skeptical at first. Ari will pay Eric a ridiculous amount of money and promise to solve his problems with love, on the condition that he surrender his identification and do everything Ari says for just a few days.

Ari's money is good, and Eric is too curious not to accept. Soon, Ari has transformed him into Erin, with a whole new rush of exciting and confusing feelings, opening the door to a passionate affair that Erin comes to love more than she ever loved her time as a man.

Her time with Ari is soon drawing to a close, though. Erin doesn’t want to go back to life as Eric, but unless she can convince Ari to keep her, she fears that she will have to go back to her old life - a life that seems pale and dim compared to the vibrant colors of living as a woman.

    Chapter 1

Eric flung himself onto his bed, groaning. Another one. Why couldn’t he make it through a single date without wanting to run for the hills?

Irene had been lovely. That wasn’t the problem. They had similar interests. She was beautiful, funny and interesting. There was absolutely no reason why he shouldn’t be thrilled to go on a date with her.

Regardless, he wasn’t. Eric had quickly become bored and had ended up counting the moments until the date was over.

He reached for his phone and dialed Michelle’s number from memory. She answered on the third ring.

    Eric! How was it?

Awful, Eric moaned. I hate it. Irene was great, but I just… I wasn’t excited by her.

Michelle made a noise of sympathy. I’m sorry, Eric. I guess she just wasn’t the one for you.

I’m beginning to wonder if anyone is the one for me. What if I’m doomed to live a lonely life? I want to find love, but what if it’s not meant to be?

There is no such thing as meant to be, Michelle said firmly. We all make choices, and those choices define what path our lives take. If you choose to keep looking for love, you will find it, eventually. It may just take some time, that’s all.

Are you trying to convince yourself or me?

Michelle chuckled sadly. You have me there. I’m not sure if online dating is really for me. I can’t get a good read on a person before I meet them face-to-face. I keep going on dates and realizing in the first fifteen minutes that I don’t actually like her.

You and me both. Except for me, it’s not that I don’t like them, exactly. I’m just not excited by the prospect of dating them.

    You know what?

Uh-oh. I don’t like that tone. That tone coming from Michelle before never boded well. The last time he’d heard it, she had convinced him to go sky diving despite his crippling fear of heights. Michelle could be very persuasive when she wanted to, which was one of the things that made her such a good lawyer.

I think the two of us need to stop moaning and start doing.

We are doing, Michelle! We must have been on more first dates in the past year than the average person has in their lifetime.

Yes, but clearly, online dating isn’t working for us. I think we need to try something else.

You mean like a singles mixer?

    Think bigger.

Why don’t you just tell me your idea?

Because I like making you guess. Michelle giggled. Come on, think. We both need a break. We need to get away from our situations and experience something new—something that can put us into a mindset to meet the loves of our lives.

I give up. What have you come up with?

    A singles cruise!

Eric laughed bitterly. Michelle, I barely make enough with my art to pay the rent. There’s no way I can afford a cruise.

So I’ll pay for both of us.

No way. I can’t accept that. Cruises are expensive. It’s too much.

Please, Eric? It’ll be so great! You’d be doing me a huge favor. I wouldn’t want to go on something like that on my own, but with you, I’d have to confidence to go out there and meet Mrs. Right.

    It’s so much money…

You know money isn’t an issue for me. My lack of a love life is. You can help me with that and help yourself at the same time. Come on, Eric, please?

Eric knew he could never resist Michelle. She was like a force of nature. He admired her more than anyone else in his life. She could always convince him to do crazy things, which often turned out a lot better than he had expected.

Except for the sky diving. That had been a nightmare. But the spur of the moment road trip had been great, as had their disastrous attempt at cooking classes. It turned out that neither of them was destined to be a chef, but at least they had some great stories to tell about how they came to that conclusion.

Fine, but when I make it big, I’m paying you back.

Agreed. You know, my offer to get you an agent to promote your work stills stands. You’re good enough to be huge; it’s just exposure you need.

I’m not letting you pay for my career, Eric repeated for what had to be the millionth time. But thank you. I do appreciate the offer. Again.

Well, let me know if you change your mind. Anyway, I’ll look online for a cruise.

Maybe there won’t be one for a while. Eric couldn’t keep the hopeful note out of his voice. He didn’t think this was a good idea at all. It was bad enough wanting to escape from dates now. What in the world was he supposed to do when he was stuck on the same boat as the person?

There will be, even if we have to fly to another state to get to the starting point.

Eric rolled his eyes. Michelle was unstoppable.

So he wasn’t entirely surprised when he found himself stepping onto the deck of a decadent cruise ship three days later. Eric packed his painting supplies, figuring that he could always escape into his work if the lackluster dating got too overwhelming.

Michelle was practically vibrating with excitement beside him. Ooh, I like the look of her. Do you think she’s gay?

    No idea.

Yeah, she looks more bi to me.

You can’t tell that by looking at someone, Michelle.

    Can too, Michelle argued.

Eric rolled his eyes but couldn’t entirely hide a smile. He and Michelle followed the map to their rooms, which were across the hall from each other. Eric whistled softly. The room alone was good enough to justify coming on this cruise. The bed was huge with fluffy blankets and a carved wooden headboard. There was an attached bathroom, a desk, and a large sofa. The room and the bathroom together were almost big enough to fit Eric’s entire house inside.

He hated to think how much this
