About this ebook

There’s no better way to decode the mysteries of women than to become one yourself...

Antwon Reynolds is a brilliant scientist working day and night to win fame and fortune by solving the ultimate mystery of mankind—how to understand the mysterious inner workings of women’s minds! To further his research, he comes up with a brilliant and daring plan: the creation of a potion which will allow him to transform himself into a woman and conduct first-hand research of the intricacies of the fairer sex. The only barrier to his plan is Duke Owen Montgomery, head of the scientific society, and his biggest critic. Not only does the Duke regularly belittle Antwon, but his uncanny success with women is infuriating. What drives this strange attraction?

When Antwon completes his potion, he experiences his moment of greatest triumph as he takes it and is immediately transformed into a beautiful woman, mind and body! He poses as his own cousin Anita, and immediately sets out learning to act and speak as a woman from his ravishing assistant Maggie so that he can complete his societal research.

But being a woman is so much more exciting than Anita had ever anticipated—the sensations, the power, the emotions, the cravings... most especially her newfound craving for her old enemy, Duke Owen. Will she be able to resist her passions long enough to finish her research, or will she give in to the newfound desire she experiences at the touch of his artful hands? More and more, all she wants is to seduce the Duke, wrap herself up at his side, and be with him forever...

    Chapter 1

Someday, he’d prove them all wrong.

The problem was that the supposed day seemed further and further away with each passing second. He knew firsthand what it felt like to crave acceptance and even admiration, but he got none of those.

Being a scientist in Victorian England was hard enough, but not being respected in your own field was another travesty all its own. Yes, he came from humble origins, but he didn’t see why that should affect his current social standing, much less his findings.

They were not, contrary to popular belief, mutually exclusive. Quite the opposite actually, but he was hard-pressed to find anyone who believed him. In fact, there were many who thought he was far too progressive for his time, and they shied away from him, afraid of what thinking ahead could do to them.

As if it were some kind of contagious disease.

Unfortunately, Antwon Reynolds knew exactly how it felt to be the subject of ridicule, all too well. Most of the times, he was dismissed out of hand, without even being given the chance to speak.

In part, he knew it was due to his physical appearance; with his short stature, slanted hazel eyes and soft dark hair, it was hard to be intimidating. If anything, his appearance drew a very different reaction altogether, one of amusement but nothing more.

He sighed as he drew his bottom lip between his teeth and squinted, reaching for the candle set on the table to look at his parchment. He used the tips of his fingers to stretch it out, his quill poised but nothing came to mind.

No, much to his frustration and dismay, he was drawing a complete blank and he wanted to lash out, to kick the table in front of him. Instead, he settled for making a low noise of disapproval underneath his breath.

Dr. Reynolds, you really ought to eat something.

Startled, Antwon leaned back in his chair and peered behind him, letting out a relieved sigh when he noticed who was there.

It was only Maggie, his assistant.

Most people were critical of his choice of personal assistant given her skin color and the fact that she was a woman, but it was one of the main reasons why he chose her. Not only was she more than capable of dealing with his unusual requests and his burst of energy in between slumps, but she also understood, better than anyone, what it felt like to be exiled to the fringes of society.

People looked at her and saw nothing past the dark color of her skin. Antwon gazed at Maggie and saw nothing but potential, and a woman who could be a brilliant scientist; better than most of the men he worked with, if only she was given the chance.

I’m not hungry now, Antwon said.

Dr. Reynolds, you say that all the time but pouring over those documents and making yourself sick will not help you win their approval, Maggie pointed out, fluttering about him, clearing up papers and organizing books.

    She was right.

    Of course she was.

Half the time he wasn’t even sure why he bothered. He might as well be chasing after a daydream for all the luck he’d experienced in that department. Worse even. They were never going to take him seriously because they’d already labelled him a crackpot and declared that his ideas were founded on magic, not science.

    What utter nonsense.

Naturally, they were based on science—alchemy more than anything else—but they didn’t understand that. Narrow minded as they were, he couldn’t expect them to, not if they turned a blind eye to every new discovery, anything that
