Mr. Darcy's Passion - A Sensual Pride and Prejudice Compromise - Harriet Lark

Elizabeth Bennet looked around her with delight, as the carriage drove along the country lane. She was touring Derbyshire with her aunt and uncle Gardiner, and last night they had made plans to visit Pemberley.

She had been uneasy upon hearing her aunt and uncle discuss the idea, but upon asking the maid at the Lambton Inn, where they were staying, if the family were in residence and receiving a negative, she had told herself that she could not possibly bump into Mr. Darcy.

And now, Pemberley Wood was before them! Lush green grass, numerous trees, and shrubs invited one to walk among them and observe nature at its finest. After about half a mile, Pemberley House came before them. To think she could have been mistress of all this!

But no, Elizabeth told herself. How could she have been happy with a man who had so little respect for her family, especially her mother, and her sisters Kitty and Lydia? Although she despaired of those family members herself at times, she nonetheless loved them, because they were her family.

Yes, she allowed, trying to stop a note of wistful longing from appearing in her tone. It is.

If only things could have been different! If Mr. Darcy had not spoken to her of his distaste for her family, if he had seen her as an equal, instead of an inferior connection, how different her life would be at this very instant!

But alas, it was not to be. And she would make the best of the situation, as she always endeavored to do.

They were admitted to the house by the elderly housekeeper, Mrs. Reynolds, who was happy to show them around. Although Elizabeth told herself not to be concerned, she could not help but wonder if Mr. Darcy would suddenly appear in one of the many splendid rooms.

But when her aunt inquired after the family, the housekeeper told them that he was expected on the next day, with a large party of friends arriving the day after.

Relief thudded in Elizabeth’s heart. How could she face Mr. Darcy again, after that proposal, and the intelligence he had laid out in his letter regarding disingenuous, deceitful Wickham, and the steps he, Darcy, took to separate her dear sister Jane from Mr. Bingley?

    After they quit the
