About this ebook

When you switch places with your spouse, you can do it better....

John Mason is sick and tired of his wife riding him all day about chores, and repeatedly asks her to stop. Sure, Melissa Rivera is smoking hot, and they get along like wildfire, but it isn’t enough anymore, not when she sits around all day doing nothing. Until one day, the two of them are fighting, and end up switching bodies.

At first, John assumes he’s going to enjoy being a woman, leaving the chores, and a career as a computer technician to his wife. But John quickly realizes that being a model is anything but easy, from his demanding personal trainer, to the rigorous work and diet schedule, and a manager who keeps pushing him to do more, he quickly starts to regret his earlier thoughts. Meanwhile, Melissa is having the time of her life, cooking, cleaning, and becoming a better man than he ever was.

When the two of them realize that the situation might be permanent, they have to come to terms with reality, or risk losing each other and themselves for good.

    Chapter 1

John grimaced as his back twinged. He hated scrubbing the bathroom floors. It always hurt his back and made his knees ache. Still, it had to be done, and since Melissa refused to hire a housekeeper, there was only him to do it. Heaven forbid Melissa did some actual hard work.

Once the floor was sparkling, John checked on the spinach and kale soup he had cooking for Melissa. He was having a burger for dinner, but Melissa insisted on weird healthy meals that looked disgusting to him. She insisted it was necessary for her figure. John knew that was important since she was a model, but it seemed a miserable way to live.

The soup was on track, leaving John free to clean the kitchen counters and wash the dishes. Melissa was at one of her many salon appointments, which John was both resentful and relieved about. He hated that she spent all her time going to salons, working out, and lying on the couch sipping wine, but if she wasn’t here, at least they weren’t arguing.

It had sounded good at first. Melissa made plenty of money with her modeling career, even though she didn’t seem to enjoy the work that much. She certainly had the body for it. When they’d gotten married, they had agreed that she would work, and John would take care of household chores.

In the four years since then, John had come to regret the agreement, but whenever he tried to bring that up with Melissa, it ended up in yet another scorching fight.

John wished he had time to work out like Melissa did. Even though he didn’t need to keep his figure as trim as she did, it would be good to lose a few pounds. He was always so busy that he never got the chance.

When John was done with the kitchen, he lay down on the couch, groaning as he stretched out his tired muscles. If Melissa were here, she’d point out all of the chores he hadn’t yet done, but she’d be gone for another hour, at least.

John grabbed his phone and dialed his best friend’s number from memory. Aimee answered on the third ring.

    Hey, John.

    Hi, Aimee. How are you?

    I’m alright.

He could tell from her tone that she wasn’t. How did last night’s date go?

Aimee sighed. Horrible. All she did was talk about herself; I barely got a word in edgewise. I don’t know if there’s something wrong with me that I just attract the wrong kind of woman or if I’m just unlucky.

It’s just luck, John soothed. There’s nothing wrong with you. Things will change for you sooner or later. You just have to keep trying.

I’m getting so tired of this. I just want to fall in love with the right woman. Is that too much to ask?

Better to wait than to fall in love with the wrong one, John said grimly.

    Problems with Melissa again?

We had another fight this morning. She was going to one of those stupid salon visits again. I swear, she never does anything except those asinine dance classes and goes to the salon. Well, that drink wine until she falls asleep on the couch.

    What happened with the fight?

I asked her if she could help with dinner when she got home. She exploded on me, shrieking about how hard she works to bring money into the household—as if! Then, I got angry as well and shouted back that she wouldn’t know a hard day’s work if it slapped her in the face.

John could practically hear Aimee wincing across the line. You both need to learn to control your tempers when you fight.

It’s a fight, Aimee. Our tempers aren’t under control by definition. I’m starting to wonder if I made a mistake in marrying her.

You’ve been wondering that for a while, ever since you both stormed out of couples’ therapy. Have you been thinking more about divorce?

I have, John admitted. To be honest, I don’t think Melissa would be at all opposed to the idea. I keep thinking that if I try to talk to her one more time it’ll work, and we can get things back to the way they used to be. It hasn’t been all bad. I loved her once. Now… now, I’m not sure. She’s not a bad person. I just don’t think we fit anymore.

She’s hot, that’s for sure, but I think the two of you have two conflicting personalities. You managed to make things work for a while, but when Melissa’s modeling career got more serious, she started bringing in big money and thought that was a good reason to give up helping around the house and to make you do it all.

Exactly! This was why John loved talking to Aimee. She really got him. Whenever I try to talk to her about it, she gives me this patronizing bullshit about how her life isn’t as easy as I think it is. And God forbid she catches me taking a break from my chores. I feel like a child. She goes on and on about how it’s not all fun and games for her being a model. She’s doing her part, and she expects me to do mine. As if I’m not!

I know. You work so hard, and she doesn’t see it at all.

Sometimes I wish a wandering genie would pop up and show her what it’s really like to be me.

Don’t say that! You know that genies can your wishes from miles away.

    So what?

So, they may grant wishes, but that always comes with a price, and they don’t reveal what it is upfront. Best to stay away from genies completely.

John knew that Aimee was right, but it was difficult to remember that when Melissa was yelling at him. He swore the woman was related to a banshee.

I know. It’s just an idle wish. I don’t think even a genie could get Melissa to understand where I’m coming from.

They chatted back and forth for about half an hour, after which John had to drag himself away to get back to his chores. The garden had to be weeded, and the bedding changed. It was still soiled from last night.
