Juliana and I met through a dear colleague, Dr. Joe Vitale’s virtual event, and she stood out to me as the one person in the room that always has a question and something to contribute. I noticed her innate ability to apply any concepts she was given, to see the big picture, and then use her analytical mind to break things down into actionable steps. In fact, I believe her superpower is her ability to turn problems into action, and with this book she will be able to inspire you to do the same.
As a teacher and believer that you can always improve your life, I was captivated by her book, Release, and I was pleased to see the topic of weight loss being discussed through such a unique perspective. I am extremely impressed with Juliana’s method and ability to show you how to regain your power by simply connecting with your essence. Opening My Heart To You
Not in a million years would I have thought I would be writing a book about becoming your body’s best friend, because for over a decade of my life, my body felt completely out of control. Since my early twenties, I have experienced a vast number of health struggles and my body felt, at best, a work in progress… but life had different plans for me.
Some people find their passion and mission in life by seeking them, but mine found me and very much like a good old Brazilian soap-opera, which I grew up watching until the age of 21, my story getting here had its fair share of drama, unforeseen twists and of course, a sweet romance.
I was blessed to grow up surrounded by a loving family. My grandparents, who practiced holistic modalities into their eighties, were not only role models, but also a big source of inspiration to me and my career. We grew up around nature - loving and caring deeply about animals and the planet.
This passion led me to the veterinary field, and in 2003, I was accepted at a prestigious Brazilian veterinary school. However, once again, life had other plans for me. My parents decided to immigrate to Canada in my second year of Vet Med. I paused my studies, and after we settled into our new home, I went back to school, at the time sure I would still complete my degree.
And then it happened. At my new Canadian university in my very first class, called Fundamentals of Nutrition, I fell in love - like true love at first sight! It was like nutrition was the language my brain naturally understood - like my way of grasping how things worked. It was my calling. I went on to switch my academic curriculum and completed a Master Degree in Nutrition at the same university, studying nutrition in pigs and understanding how different feed sources (mostly corn and soy-based) impacted weight gain. Little did I know that I would one day dedicate my life to the release of excess weight, but that came later!
Today, I joyously serve women in midlife, teaching them that the scale is not the only, and not even the best, measure of health and I intend to shift your perspectives on the topic as well. In fact, I can openly say that I do not have toned abs like you may expect from a weight release coach. Instead, I have a healthy gut. I do not spend hours working out at the gym, however, I do focus on moving when I am inspired and doing the things that set my soul on fire. I do not spend hours in the kitchen, as you would expect from someone trained in Nutrition. Instead, I cook when I feel like it and have convenient hacks for days that I do not. This book is my invitation to you to start looking at your body, and everything you wish to change about it, differently.
The science of weight loss is complex, there are many factors and variables at play. Then there is the role of our emotions, which is often overlooked, but is the missing key piece in most weight loss transformations. In my work and throughout this book, I have been very intentional about keeping a healthy distance from the hyper-commercialized weight loss industry, to bring you a refreshing take on this somewhat controversial topic. As you will notice in the chapters to come, this is not a weight loss book, where
