When it comes to getting older, we all want to age gracefully and happily. But, at the same time, almost all of us strive to accomplish this; very few people know how to achieve it. In fact, the secret to a healthy and long life lies in our lifestyle and environment.
The concept is somewhat easy to understand, but not many people know how it works. What we eat and drink, the company we keep, and our willingness to take risks in life will dictate how long we live. Believe it or not, there are ways around increasing your chances of getting old gracefully. And yet when you think about these things, they are all life choices. These rules can keep you looking youthful, feeling young and healthy for a long time to come—a real possibility if practiced daily, consistently.
Throughout my life experiences, I have realized that there are 12 essential rules to live a long and fulfilling life. This book talks about all those magical rules briefly and how each rule has the potential of transforming your life positively.
As you would have already guessed, the first rule talks about the importance of a healthy diet in our lives. What we eat defines how we feel and look, affecting our moods. Eating healthy is essential to living a long life. When we eat the right things, we can avoid diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, obesity, or others that damage us from the inside.
The second and third rules talk about the usage of certain herbs and drinks to boost our intake of nutrients every day. Since water is the ultimate elixir of life, it is the most essential drink that our body requires. However, the book also lays great emphasis on other drinks that impact the quality of our lives in multiple ways.
The fourth rule focuses on family, society, and how important it is to be with your loved ones in life. It is no secret that we all want to lead a life full of love and affection. We can all attest to the fact that when we feel loved and cared for, we tend to live longer and happier lives.
The fifth rule talks about sleep and its importance in our lifestyle. The book discusses how much sleep we actually need each day and how to ensure that we get the right amount of sleep even while working. We all know that, in our busy lives, it is not always possible to get 8-9 hours of sleep each night. However, you might not know that there are other methods to help you fall asleep easily and quickly.
The sixth rule deals with the importance of exercise in our lives. You might be wondering how much you should exercise in your day-to-day life. I have already told you that when you eat healthily, sleep well, and drink the right things; it becomes difficult to make time to work out. But from someone who has 'been there and done that', I know exercise is the secret to a long life.
The seventh rule focuses on mental wellness and how it is an essential part of our lives. The book explores different aspects of maintaining mental health, what they are, and why you should care about them. It also talks about how one can maintain their mental health through yoga or meditation daily.
The eighth rule ties in with the seventh one. It talks about the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle and explains why it is important to consistently practice certain things.
Lifestyle is something that people have little control over because you don't really get to choose what kind of family or society you are born into. However, a positive and healthy lifestyle is something that we can decide for ourselves. It talks about different aspects of being healthy, from what you eat to how much you sleep.
The ninth rule delves into our jobs and how it impacts our health as well as the quality of our lives. For example, working too hard without any breaks or just not taking care of ourselves in the workplace can result in accidents or minor health issues that go unnoticed.
The tenth rule talks about passion and how it is one of the most essential things in your life. It is said that when you do what you love to do, you never feel like working because you are always engrossed in doing something that you love. However, jobs and money are necessary to survive in today's world. So, what is the solution? The right approach is to have a creative outlet and devote time to it!
The eleventh rule talks about spirituality and its importance in our lives. Living a long life is not just about eating healthy or working out. It also involves being comfortable in your skin and being at peace with yourself and the world around you. Spirituality helps us connect with the universe and lets us enjoy life more than we might otherwise do.
The final rule is the most important of them all. It talks about dopamine detox and its benefits in our lives. Dopamine is a chemical that regulates mood, sleep, and feelings of happiness.
Most people are unaware that they have an addiction to dopamine because their brains are used to being constantly stimulated by it. The problem with dopamine is that it can cause us to focus on meaningless things instead of having more meaningful experiences.
It talks about how dopamine detox will help you get through the withdrawal phase by helping you deal with your cravings for dopamine in a more healthy way. It also suggests ways in which one can make their life healthier and happier, both physically and mentally.
