THE RETURN OF THE ACTOR

BIRTH OF THE SCHEDULED COMPANY

We know that we are moving away from industrial society; but where are we going?

A level of historicity

The INDUSTRIAL SOCIETY is one where the investment serves to change the organization of work. This society has existed since the Industrial Revolution, which started in the mid-18th century and the 1970s of our century.
In the POST-INDUSTRIAL SOCIETY, which was born at that time, what is central is no longer the production of material goods or services, but the production of symbolic goods that change values, representations and needs. While industrial society transformed the means of production, post-industrial society changed the ends of production, that is, culture. In neither case should these societies be defined by the use of a certain technology; it is a mistake to speak, for example, of the "electric motor society" or "computer society."
The key to post-industrial society is that "the entire economic system is subject to intervention by society itself." It is a PROGRAMMED SOCIETY, which has the ability to create management models for production, organization, distribution and consumption, which is not related to "natural laws" or certain cultures, but rather depends on society itself.

In neither case should these societies be defined by the use of a certain technology; it is a mistake to speak, for example, of the electric motor society or computer society.

The key to post-industrial society is that the entire economic system is subject to intervention by society itself. It is a PROGRAMMED SOCIETY, which has the ability to create management models for production, organization, distribution and consumption, which is not related to natural laws or certain cultures, but rather depends on society itself.

The lived experience of programmed society

In industrial society, individuals were directed by collective organizations, at the work level; In post-industrial society, these large centralized management apparatuses become generalized, encompassing the most diverse aspects of social life: industry, information, consumption, health, education, scientific research, etc. All those who participate in this society are attracted by the multiplication of information, since the programmed society circulates people, ideas and goods with an intensity never seen before. It is a society that does not respect pre-established behaviors or patterns of behavior, where each sector generates new movements and initiatives, destroying prejudices, prohibitions and barriers. The old separation between the public and the private is also annulled, and the participation of women is growing, linked to the search to increase family income and consumption.

Cultural innovation is driven by new leading groups, which are culturally progressive but socially conservative, while other sectors, marginalized from power, try to take refuge from the dense networks of communication, isolating themselves in small marginal groups, generating an opposition to the dominant project, both culturally and in the formation of a counter-project of society.

In short, the programmed society affects those who form it in different ways, integrating some and putting others in opposition.

    A technical society?

A criticism of the programmed society is that it increases the distance between leaders and led. The leaders are the ones who decide and use technology to rule, and not the other way around, since it is not within the nature of electricity to determine its social mode of use and the same is valid for computer techniques. But it is true
