Harold Scott

Harold Scott was a survivor of a German prison camp and also a death march through Germany during World War II. He married and lived with his family in Hastings, Nebraska till his death in 1996. He loved to write but this is the only piece that I, his daughter, have. Thank you for your interest in his book.

You Are My Friend

This book is dedicated to a very good friend

Not only were we friends but our walk together with the Lord for the last two years of his life were very special. You would have to know where he came from in order to understand our walk. He had an accident where he almost lost his life and life became real. He started to seek God. Then he had gotten shot and he had a setback. Then he began to ask God – Why? Then he asked me – Why? And there were no answers that I had for him. So, we began to study the Word of God and discuss some of my writings and it became a good walk of wisdom. It was helpful to the both of us. In the words of my brother, he said: there was a time that I was a chief servant of the Devil. I sat on the front row of his class and I was proud of it. It was all about me, and if it was not then we had a problem. But he said, I don’t feel like that anymore. We covered things like repentance and found that there was a Godly repentance. When you repent to God you do not go back and revisit the sin you have repented of and God puts it into the sea of forgetfulness. As long as you don’t’ go back neither will God. We also covered forgiveness and found that hit helps the giver more than the receiver. We covered love and why it had so much power and came to understand that the power of God is in Love, because God first loved us (there is the power of Love).

Then unconditional love, a love that does not judge, hate or condemn, it is just free love. And he felt that was the kind of love his daughter had for him and it made him proud of her and the will to seek God even the more. There are two women in our church band that he felt God sent just for him because they also possessed unconditional love for him and he began to love our group. Sisters Boss and Wiggins – he loved them very much.

Then we talked about the power of realization, the power of understanding. Then he said, you know brother, that if we understood the true meaning of God’s Word, how to apply it to our lives, we would realize things before they happened rather than after they happened and there would be less storms in our lives, and God would not have to pull us out of so much.

We talked about the fact that if a person would take pride in himself and in his word, honor in himself, and pass it on to others, this world would be a better place and it starts with him, he felt. Then he faced death. When the doctors told him he had six months to a year to live he was okay with it because we had talked about life and death and many more
