To the holy spirit; To my parents, Ms. Eloise Davis and Mr. Charlie Murphy; To my kids, Brandon, Brit’tany, Keith, LaKeisha, Steve and Sterling—who are the most remarkable beings who influenced my life; and to Lillian Cudworth, for standing by my side for the last two years, who always stood by me and never abandoned me through the tough times in my life.
Special Thanks
I want to give thanks to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, first and foremost. I want to thank all of my loved ones for standing by me and supporting me in this endeavor. You all keep me strong! Special thanks to my brother Rico for doing my book cover (awesome job!). I love you, and God bless you! Thanks to Mrs. L. Andrews at Ashworth College in Atlanta, Georgia, (formerly known as PCDI) for your encouragement for each essay that I wrote and making me aware of a talent that has always been there. (I am very proud of myself to have had made the school’s honor roll for English!) A special thank-you to someone very dear and special to me; thank you for your encouragement and loyalty, your support. You were there every step of the way, and I thank God for you! Bless you! Thank you, Prophetess Janet Floyd, for placing your hand on my belly and saying Don’t let anyone abort your baby, have your baby!
God bless you! Thank you to Alegna productions as seen at my photos. Special thanks to my landlord. You stood by me in the hard times and didn’t turn your back on me and gave me a chance! You are still my guardian angel! God bless you! Special thank-you to my book publishing company for making my dreams a reality! To my enemies, you kept me fighting, but God kept me stronger! If it weren’t for you and evildoers, none of this would have been possible. God has shoes for everyone, and my shoes were ordained by God! He is the finisher of all things, and from my heart, I forgive you all. My name is Victory! Thank you all for being supportive! May God bless you!
Chapter 1
Knowing God
Many of God’s people are struggling and can’t seem to find out why nothing is working for them anymore. Some are giving up and turning away from him. But for those who will remain faithful and determined to know their God, the best is yet to come. God wants to pour out his spirit and blessings; however, we must be in a position to receive what belongs to us. Philippians tells us of Paul’s dedicated life toward God. Paul revealed his entire reason for existence was centered in Christ.
Paul talked about a place in Christ where there is joy in believing. What is faith? Faith is a substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. I hoped that one day, I would write a book. I had the faith that I could; I believed in it, but the substance wasn’t there.
The timing, the place, or the hour were not in my favor then. But the timing, place, and hour—the appointed hour—have come. The substance that I believed in and had the faith for has now become a materialized substance (a tool) of things hoped for.
There is a place in God where it becomes joyful to trust him and to have confidence in yourself. If you were to say to someone Use your faith,
they’ll say, I don’t have enough.
Come on, where is the joy of faith? It’s only through knowing God that you can truly understand the joy of faith.
Matthew 6:33 tells us, But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
When your motivation for studying the Bible is so that you can know him, then you will discover that your relationship with him will put you in a position to have your every need met. Put God first in all that you do.
Some people are selfish or self-centered and have no desire to know God. They only want what he’ll give them. In some cases, people only call on God when they’re in trouble, but they don’t know him. They’ve heard of him or about him, but they really don’t know him. And because they don’t know him, they go on what someone else says about him, and some things are simply not true.
Don’t just take their word; know him for yourself. This is not a get-rich-quick scheme. Read the Word, study it, get to know him more intimately for yourself. God knows everything about you. He knows your likes, your dislikes. He even knows the number of hair on your head. He knows you so well, your thoughts and intent of your heart. Nothing gets by him. That’s intimate.
I hear lots of Christians say, I don’t know God’s will.
Well, when you get to know him, he will show you his will for your life as well as your purpose. Many say, Well, how will I know it’s God talking to me?
Well, if you quickly identify the voice of the devil and say, God never talks to me,
then you are fellowshipping with the wrong fellow because God says in John 10: 27-28, My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
John 10:29-30 says, My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand. I and my Father are one.
People of God, did you just hear what God said? Well, what does this mean? It means when you get to know God in an intimate way and fellowship with him, you will know God’s voice from any other voice that no man can pluck you out of his hand.
God wants to restore, rebuild, repay, refinance old and new things in your life. The old things are the things that he wanted you to have at, or during, a time, and you weren’t ready to receive. You missed your season, your timing. Saints, timing is everything with God, and if you are not spiritually mature and positioned in your place, you will miss God. And the cycle you are washing on is not the cycle for delicates; you can’t wash delicates on any other cycle other than what is indicated. They will mess up completely.
Saints, that’s how it is with God. We focus on so much more other than God that we can’t sit still enough to hear him speak to us. Everything around us seems so much important that we allow the enemy to come in, fix up a fake version of a situation, and entice situations to make them seem worse or even sometimes better (but it turns out to be wrong for us).
If you want to reap the benefits of the rewards, then come on and get on the sailboat. If you miss your appointment with God to go on this journey, guess what? You have to start over until you learn how to let God discipline you and you start obeying him.
He can use you when he sees and knows that you are trying. (He gives his rewards when we’re able to do that.)
But if he can do that just because we tried, just know how much more he rewards us for completely trusting and obeying him. God’s voice should be very important to you. If you know someone well like your sister or brother and other people are in the room with them, you walk into the room and you didn’t see them and they begin to speak, you hear their voices and you know their voices. You say to yourself, Is that my sister and brother?
And you go see, and sure enough, it’s them.
Out of all those people, you know their voices well. God’s voice is no different. When you spend time with God, commune with him, you will identify or detect God’s voice. I know God because I spend time with him. I know his voice because I’ve heard it often. When you really know him, you will have joy of faith.
The greatest desire of Paul’s life was to know God. The greatest desire of your life should be to know him. And when you know him, you won’t have to worry about your needs. You won’t have to struggle with your faith.
There will come joy in believing. When your back is up against the wall and you’re facing impossible circumstances, you will then declare, I know in whom I have believed, and he is able!
Saints, to get this joy, you have to be willing and open to God and allow Jesus to minister to your heart. Allow yourself to grow in grace and follow each step that enough. It’s very important that you do this. Why? Because it shows that you are teachable. It builds your new and true identity, a new character.
If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land.
(Isaiah 1:19). That is how much God loves his children. He is totally concerned about you and wants what’s best, and trust me when I say the best, I mean the best when you learn how to give him your best. With that comes joy, unspeakable joy!
Knowing God for yourself is taking time out in your busy schedule, get in the Word of God, learn how to read God’s Word. Don’t be afraid to pray and ask Jesus to teach you how to read and understand God’s Word for your life. It’s no different if you ask a friend to read or help you understand something you’re not sure about. Jesus will teach you, but you must be serious about Jesus, yourself, and your relationship with God.
Once you are serious, you will be able to gain some insight by meditating on God’s Word. Don’t try to read a lot at once, but read enough to get it in your spirit. So if you have a question about something you don’t understand, ask and then wait until you hear from God. He can come at anytime; he can come by way of TV, by music, by someone, by thought. If your heart speaks, your spirit man will awaken to the voice of God; and from that moment on, your spirit man will be able to detect or identify the voice of God.
Saints, that’s joy—just knowing that you know the voice of God, and anyone can’t tell you any different. Most Christians are not sure whether or not that is in fact God’s voice speaking, and the only way to know is if you are serious about getting to know God first and foremost. It’s
