PREFACE
Creating Balance was inspired by over 20 years of client experiences—clients who sought help for health issues like weight management, chronic diseases, or energy issues. While different clients presented their own specific challenges, time and time again, the challenges had to do with the themes outlined in each chapter of this book.
As health care providers, we are limited by time and location. Creating Balance was produced to help clients on their journey to find optimal health. This book can be used by individuals who need guidance and choose to do the work on their own or in conjunction to working with a health care provider. We understand that behavior change can be challenging but with the guidance of this book, you will see that you can overcome that challenge one step at a time.
This book could not be possible without the various eyes that have read over it. Thank you to Kristin and Karen for giving us feedback from a client’s perspective. To Allison, who’s red pen we loved and cursed at the same time. Kim, for your thoughtful ideas and feedback that helped shape the direction of the book. Pauline, for not only providing written feedback but also being our biggest cheerleader. Lastly, to our families who continue to support us in our efforts to improve the health of our nation.
INTRODUCTION
Creating Balance consists of eight chapters covering motivation, nutrition, planning/purchasing/preparation, exercise, stress, mindfulness, sleep and goal setting. As you progress through the chapters, you begin to understand where you are and how, if needed, you can improve that aspect of your health. Most chapters have journal entries to help you reflect on that topic on ways you can improve based on where you are.
