Acknowledgment
This book wouldn't have been possible without the combined efforts and well-wishes of so many people. A heartfelt thanks go to my family that stayed with me throughout my many health struggles and proved to be the rock of support for me in those difficult times. Special thanks to my late grandmother, who remained to be a primary source of inspiration. I would not be here if it weren't for her innate ability to bring me to face this world and provided sustenance that kept me alive during my early childhood. I will always be grateful to everyone who has been a part of my well-being journey.
Special thanks to my editor, who helped me comb out errors and discrepancies in the text. This book is the culmination of a team effort, and I am thankful I have such a fantastic team.
About the Author
To start, I was born in a defective suit. As a baby growing up was filled with uncertainty, I even got the nickname 'dead and wake' because I was always sick. I remember waking up crying from a terrible tummy ache every morning as a little child, not knowing what was wrong with me. Naturally, I was scared but unable to describe real feelings. And how could I? I was just a mere child. Thankfully, my grandmother was an herbalist and a self-taught midwife who delivered her eleven children, most of her grandchildren, including me, and multiple other children in the village. She was always there to nurse me back to health.
I still remember how, just like clockwork, my grandmother would send me to pick the herbs every morning to make my tummy feel better. The activity, even though for a little while, made me feel like a normal child. I could climb trees, run up hills, cascade down grassy banks, and play with the other children. Looking back, I realize growing up was not much fun because I was always dealing with some sort of deathly disease. Nevertheless, while those were really trying times, they prepared me for a future that was not so clear at the time. Despite my uncertain childhood, I grew up, but that does not mean without any health challenges. However, due to those experiences, I have acquired a lot of health knowledge throughout my life that I want to pass on to help others. To start with, I have obtained a BA, focusing on health psychology, behavioral science, and nutrition. At present, I am working on the thesis portion for two M.A in education, followed by a PhD. program in education with some wellness elements attached. I am also a certified yoga teacher and health coach, a wellness researcher, and a lifestyle coach. Wellness is a huge part of my being, and it pains me to see so much anguish and suffering around me due to health issues. And that is one of the main reasons why I am writing this book.

Testing Your Wellness Savvy
Meditation, Spiritual, Yoga, Meditating, Healthy, Zen"Health is a state of body. Wellness is a state of being."
– J. Stanford
Ask anyone ‘What is the most important concern you face? Without missing a beat, many would answer 'their health' with conviction. Why? In today's busy and competitive world, stressors are found left and right, and more people than before are getting sick because they don't look after their minds and bodies properly. Striving for good health is given a back bench in the list of essential things, as people are increasingly faced with a dilemma – whether to choose optimal health or money?
More often than not, making more money (often at the expense of one's health) trumps everything else. This results in absences at the office and even hospitalization.
A fundamental truth to keep in mind is that life is short. Is it better to waste precious years in pursuing something that offers temporary happiness? Or dedicate these years to living in health and wellness for your loved ones?
What will you choose? Remember, optimal health and wellness is a choice. It's a decision people must make time and time again, even when they do not feel like it.
A healthy body and mind don't happen to most of us. I know many like me must have faced a lot of trouble in pursuing health and wellness. Yet, that's fine and expected. What we must do is claim health and wellness, own it, and make it a priority. The road towards health and wellness gets easier over time.
Understanding just why optimal health is important can also help pave the way.
Importance of Optimal Health
Optimal health is essential for a myriad of reasons. First is the most obvious: optimal health includes all facets of health that need to be taken care of, to find the best chance at living a long (and healthy) life.
Optimal health, in simpler words, is a state of complete well-being. According to the World Health Organization:
"Optimal health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity."
Do healthy people still get sick? Yes. Unfortunately. However, you'll pull the odds in your favor after deciding to work toward optimal health. Are you giving your body what it needs to function at its best? What does it need, anyway?
Just as a car needs fuel to run and even monthly maintenance - our body needs ideal nutrition to perform at maximum efficiency. An excellent example is a diet, which can be good
