Hi! I’m Jo. I write character-driven steamy romance. My stories tend to come in serials because I love complications. I find nothing’s spicier than characters taking a life of their own.So prepare for adventurous scenarios, very sophisticated friendships, dangerous games, power plays, leading ladies, sexy tricksters, and handsome princes in distress. I like dark alpha males as well as vulnerable cuties. And my female characters tend to come with a rebel streak or a temper. Sue me.You can read stories out of order if you’re just here for a one-night stand. Or you can climb in for the entire ride, thrills, emotions and all. That’s up to you.Firsts in series will generally be free. When a story arc is done, bundles will ensue, and they will read like novels, with a Happily Ever After, or at least a Happy For Now. Stay tuned!

This story is part of an erotic romance series, so it is loaded with adult content, sexy scenes, crude words, and even the occasional swear word. Be advised that it may come with weird side effects such as panties melting, hot daydreaming or, I don’t know, the occasional stiffy. If all of this is upsetting to you, you don’t have to read it. Also be advised that, while consent is exchanged, some of the characters' fantasies might run somewhat on the dark side.

    Friend in Need

Viv, Adrian’s designer friend, lived in an artists’ community downtown, not too far from his place, but almost invisible from the busy streets crawling with lawyers, bankers and other business types. You had to push a heavy door and walk around some skyscrapers to find the old building in a green courtyard. It was a little like my own house, but even more surprising and rebellious.

Some rich protector of the arts had bought the building as it threatened to fall apart and had renovated it so that painters, sculptors, musicians and dancers could live and practice there with a safe roof above their heads. He only insisted they put in the hours and they tidy the place once a year by organizing a huge sale to promote their work, so that a cleaning crew might then have a go at their rooms. As Adrian and I arrived that evening after work, it was probably somewhere in the middle of that cycle. The place was gently chaotic, smelled of paint and turpentine and dust and gym locker and fun, and generated more cacophony than a bagpiper’s armpit.

Every square inch of the walls and floors was covered in paintings and art pieces, as if the painters had run out of canvas in an outburst of creativity at some point and used the building itself as a medium. In the stairs, someone had gone through the trouble of drawing a comic on the vertical parts of the steps. It was an outlandish story about a two-headed superhero and his ideal woman, a very fluid shapeshifter. Consequently, going up to the first floor where Viv was waiting for us was taking me a lot more time than it should have.

Adrian was quite patient about it.

It happens to everyone when they first come here, he said, grinning.

It’s awesome, I said, reaching the first landing. Why don’t you live in a place like this one?

I tried to imagine it and quickly smiled, even as
