The morning after our belated New Year’s Eve dinner, I woke up alone in the flat. It was a beautiful wintry Sunday morning. There was a luminous quality to the silence and I decided to have a wonderful day of doing nothing.

I knew I’d have to face my roommates eventually, but they weren’t there. So I just sent them both short messages to alleviate the tensions that might arise after my last shenanigans. I was quite aware I might have pushed things a little further than they were both comfortable with.

Things had changed more for them since I was under their roof than they had in a long time. And so all things considered, I didn’t feel all that bad about myself.

CHLOE TO ADAM: I had fun last night. How are you today?
