About this ebook

Throw away the key.

Adam’s folks come to visit, forcing the threesome to deal with the outside world and define their relationship. Is it still just a sexy game? It may have started like one, but the implications run far deeper now.
When there’s no news from Sean’s little sister Allie at their parents’ place, the three roommates fear for her safety and launch an intervention to rescue her. And find themselves in the process.

This tenth story in the spicy menage serial Silk & Gravel is (just a little) less steamy than what came before. It ends the second arc of this romance on a deeper, more emotional note.

Hi! I’m Jo. I write character-driven steamy romance. My stories tend to come in serials because I love complications. I find nothing’s spicier than characters taking a life of their own.So prepare for adventurous scenarios, very sophisticated friendships, dangerous games, power plays, leading ladies, sexy tricksters, and handsome princes in distress. I like dark alpha males as well as vulnerable cuties. And my female characters tend to come with a rebel streak or a temper. Sue me.You can read stories out of order if you’re just here for a one-night stand. Or you can climb in for the entire ride, thrills, emotions and all. That’s up to you.Firsts in series will generally be free. When a story arc is done, bundles will ensue, and they will read like novels, with a Happily Ever After, or at least a Happy For Now. Stay tuned!

    This Chain Between Us

Suddenly the freezing wind didn’t sting quite as much, and it brought smells evocative of green living things, and the days were longer. I could almost taste spring approaching already. Granted, it was still happening mostly in my head, but that day, walking across the new campus with my friend Mariann and her new bandmate Ollie, I thought it might be a shared feeling.

We were done for the day and they were meeting for rehearsal. I’d decided to tag along, like a regular groupie. They’d found a garage not too far from the university where they could play, as loudly as they wanted to. They were headed that way now, after our last English class together, and their energy was contagious.

The place belongs to Sam’s uncle, Ollie explained.

She was a rather plain brunette who transformed completely when she hit the stage. I’d seen her sing only once, the previous week at a karaoke bar. She was amazing. I kinda wanted to date her since I’d heard her voice and seen her dance. Even though I was already more than busy in the relationship department.

The fact that Ollie worked with Sean, my roommate and dark, twisted lover, at that real estate agency on the other side of town, only made her more interesting. I was nearly jealous, although Sean had assured me many times, albeit in winding ways, of his undying love for my scary evil self.

Are you really coming with us? Mariann asked, smiling. Wouldn’t you rather go home to your gorgeous men?

She thought she was quirkily funny when she joked about our little menage, and she had no idea how close she came to the actual truth. I had two roommates in my bed these days, although, technically, the only bed in the flat big enough to contain the three of us was Sean’s canopy boat. The temperature at home had risen by a million degrees in the past week. In fact, that karaoke outing last Tuesday had probably been the first evening we hadn’t spent naked at our apartment in a long time. It had felt somewhat weird.

I won’t stay, I told Mariann. I don’t want to make you uncomfortable; I just need a visual for that thing you’re doing. And for Sam’s garage. And for Sam himself. The bass player they’d found for their band had made a rather rocky entrance in their lives. Ollie had wanted him instantly, because he was by far the best of the candidates they’d auditioned, whereas Mariann had tried to put her foot down. She found him too pretty. I sensed complications, and wanted to see for myself.

Don’t worry, Mariann declared. We love groupies. We want all the groupies.

    I smiled.

Her orange hat and her violently pink scarf only made her round eyes appear bluer than usual. She was from Florida and she’d had to invest in winter attire for her first year in the windy North. She was quirky and kind, and she was the first friend I’d had here, even before Sean and Adam.
