From her vantage as one of the most-watched newscasters in the country, the 45-year-old journalist blends autobiographical reflection with harrowing accounts of the harassment she experienced at the hands of Donald Trump and the founder of Fox News, Roger Ailes.

    Kelly had a mostly happy childhood in upstate New York. She was raised by nurturing parents who encouraged her to be self-sufficient and ambitious. Her first traumatic experience happened in seventh grade when she was suddenly ostracized and bullied by her girlfriends for no discernable reason. It was a short-lived but terrible period that left an emotional scar.

    Her next trauma occurred at the age of 15, when her father died suddenly of a heart attack. Kelly’s last conversation with him was an unimportant but heated argument about a class ring; for years afterward, she felt guilty about it.

    At Syracuse University, Kelly met her first serious boyfriend, Jim. He helped fill the emptiness she felt after her father’s death, but ultimately they parted ways. After a flirtation with the journalism program, Kelly settled on a political science major. By junior year, she knew she wanted
