About this ebook
Educator, Author, and Psychologist Dr. Beverly Tatum's book entitled Why Are All the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria: And Other Conversations About Race talks about how different races cope when mixed with other races in a public setting. She talks about why most kids in school, especially in America, group themselves with people who have the same race as them. Tatum also encourages the readers to use their voices and speak out on the racism they encounter themselves or to anyone they know. Most of her books and journals are mainly about this topic and the psychological reason behind it. Even though the novel was published 23 years ago, it is still being used in schools to educate students to give awareness about racism.
Why Are All the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria: And Other Conversations About Race is a National Bestseller and is considered a classic. Initially published in 1997, it has already been re-released multiple times. The latest version was released in 2017 for it's 20th anniversary, which contains an updated and revised edition. It has been more than two decades since its release, but it's still well-received by the public since the subject is still relevant up to this day.

Introducing Why Are All the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria?
Racism is still a controversial and important topic everywhere in the world today. To some people, race is a symbol of status, wealth, intelligence, and many others. Why Are All the Black Kids Sitting Together's main subject is how people choose to cope with their race and speak up about the discrimination they experience. In this book, the author Beverly dissects the content into multiple parts - the meaning of race, a person's identity, explicitly understanding what it's like being black and being white in the white context, issues in other races, and finding the courage to speak out.
Over the years, multiple habits and practices have been passed down from generations that differ per race. This is because people are treated differently solely based on which group of people they belong to. The author defines racism as a system advantage that is based on race. Most resources, such as education, government, and others, are accessible depending on your race. With this, we can say that privilege, specifically white privilege exists. However, Dr. Tatum says most white people do not believe in this idea mainly because they have never thought of the perks they get just because they are white. People fall into two different groups, the dominant and the subordinate. Most times, the dominant group holds power over the subordinate, and they see themselves as the epitome of human
