Introducing How to Be an Antiracist
How to be an Antiracist is written by New York Times bestselling author Ibram Kendi, and it talks about racism and inequality in the society. Kendi shared in the book that he has been a lifelong racist. In the book, Kendi wanted the readers to think about how would the nation might look like if racism does not exist. Because of this, he wanted the readers to think about how people can play an active role in building an anti-racist society. Kendi shared to the readers his racist introduction by narrating his experiences. He mentioned a particular moment that happened on January 17, 2000. Kendi said that he made it to the final round of the Prince William County Martin Luther King Jr. oratorical contest. His parents, Carol and Larry, were so proud of him. However, Kendi felt that he’s not meant to be in that position. He thought that he doesn’t deserve to be on that contest because most of his competitors are academic prodigies. Kendi said that he carried a GPA lower than 3.0 and his SAT result barely cracked 1000 mark. His competitors have been recruited by different colleges, meanwhile Kendi got admission letters from two colleges he halfheartedly
