About this ebook

Know My Name: A Memoir by Chanel Miller: Conversation Starters

Know my name is the autobiography of Chanel Miller, who came out with her true identity for the first time after going through the turmoil of sexual assault. The book was an Instant New York Times Bestseller, and the author's words gave courage to many victims to come forward and share their stories.
Chanel Miller was attending a party at Stanford University with her sister in 2015. A Stanford graduate named Brock Turner sexually assaulted her. Turner later received a lenient sentence of six months imprisonment, and public outrage saw the judge being recalled. Miller was referred to as Emily Doe throughout the trial and has revealed her true identity in her memoir to make sure people could hear her side of the story.

The two sisters then drove and picked up Tiffany's friend Julia, a Stanford student. Later in the evening, two more friends of Tiffany named Trea and Colleen arrived at Miller's place, and the four girls decided to go to the party at the Stanford campus, Kappa Alpha fraternity. Miller was initially not too keen to go to the party but then agreed upon the insistence of others to accompany them.

Stanford was a familiar place to Miller as she had grown up near the premises. She decided to have some fun at the party and return home safely with her sister. However, she found herself sometime later in a hospital. The college dean was asked to identify if she was one of the students, but she mentioned that she wasn't. A deputy police officer asked her if she was okay, and she wondered why she wouldn't be okay. She was slowly made to realize that she was a victim of sexual assault. Her mind and her body revolted at the idea as she was pretty sure
