    Chapter 1

A week and a half had passed, and Danielle Williams still couldn't believe that she was engaged to the man of her dreams. She was sitting in his bed, replying to some emails, while their daughter Emily played with her dolls on the floor. Andrew Johnson had gone to get breakfast, it was almost thirty, but he almost religiously never had actual food in his apartment. He still lived off of take out and delivery, and the trash was always full of take out containers. It was snowing, and she didn't want to leave the apartment. She wanted to stay there forever.

She kept staring at the ring on her finger. Her ex husband, had never bought her a ring that extravagant. She had sold it, after the divorce, and only had gotten six hundred dollars for it.

    Her ex husband was cheap.

She already knew that she didn’t want to do a big lavish wedding. She had done that the first time, and that marriage hadn't worked out. She would have been happy going to the courthouse that afternoon and getting married there. The truth was that even though she knew she wanted to get married, the last thing she really wanted to do was plan a wedding. Danielle wished she had never married Matthew, never done the big white dress and huge cake with a bunch of mutual college friends. She wished that it would be all new like it would be to Andrew. He was excited to get married, to go look at churches and hotels with ballrooms. He wanted that. The simple idea of it made her feel slightly queasy. Danielle knew she would have to talk to him, that they would have to find somewhere to compromise. At least Andrew had cared. She knew that Matthew hadn't cared.

The door opened and shut and Emily went running towards the door.

Hey kid, Andrew said, take these. Andrew hadn't known that she was pregnant when he had left, but he loved Emily so much. Danielle had only kept it from him because she didn't want to disrupt his life, but she had made a mistake by keeping Emily away. Emily had warmed to him immediately, as if there was this automatic connection.

Give that to mommy, okay? Andrew asked. Lily held the coffee cup with both hands and walked with all the concentration she could summon as a five-year-old girl.

I was thinking, Andrew was saying as he unpacked bags full of food. He handed a juice box to Emily, who immediately opened it, we should have a spring wedding, maybe early April? He was really excited. Danielle nodded. She could see the appeal of a spring wedding instead of one in the middle on winter. Danielle thought that winter was the most unromantic time of the year. It was hard to think of anything even slightly romantic that happened in the winter. The spring was a
