About this ebook

Book 2 Description

After the incident with the Carolina Herrera text message that was actually from Clarice Henry, Tyrone and I ended our relationship. Well I ended it. I walked out on him and went back to my old apartment. Marlene just hugged me tight when I got there with my tear-stained face dragging my suitcases.

Book 3 Description

They say that life is like a road trip; you can either travel alone or you can get a few others to travel with you. You need to be really careful whom you let into your vehicle, though, because these people are going to be sitting very close to you and you’re going to be influenced by their attitudes and their choices.

I don’t know for how long I sit on the bathroom floor and cry. I faintly remember hearing Tyrone knocking and asking me to open up the door. Then he went away and I must have fallen asleep because when I come to my senses it’s after midnight. I’m in a daze for a while as I try to remember why I’m lying on the cold bathroom floor. Then it all comes rushing back like an avalanche of shit.

Chapter 1 - Once bitten, twice shy

After the incident with the Carolina Herrera text message that was actually from Clarice Henry, Tyrone and I ended our relationship. Well I ended it. I walked out on him and went back to my old apartment. Marlene just hugged me tight when I got there with my tear-stained face dragging my suitcases.

You sure you’re ok? Did he hit you? Do you want me to call the police?

I’m fine. Of course he didn’t hit me, Marlene. He’s not like that.

Why do you keep defending that fool?

I’m not defending him. He didn’t hit me. Seriously.

Skye came out of her room on her way to the kitchen to get a snack. She stopped dead in her tracks when she saw me. Confusion was written all over her face.

What’s going on? She asked warily as she scanned me from head to toe.

Tyrone is still sleeping with your friend Clarice, I commented drily.

Oh. I thought you knew that. Skye shrugged and headed to the kitchen and I followed her.

    Wait. What do you mean?

Skye looks at me as if I just grew a beard. Didn’t I tell you he was fucking her?

Yes, but when he came back looking for me I just assumed he’d ended it with her. I’m confused and now I’m starting to wonder who else knew about this.

Nia, they never stopped. What made you think they would? I don’t understand what’s so hard to get. They obviously enjoy fucking each other hard. Which man do you know that is going to give up an opportunity for hard core, kinky fucking? She opened the fridge and pulled out a juice box then turned and looked me straight in the eye. It’s complicated. Just stay out of it and move on with your life. It’s not worth crying over.

But that doesn’t make any sense, Skye! It’s not like Tyrone and I don’t have sex! I protested.

Believe me, whatever it is that you’re giving him is nothing compared to the stuff Clarice is willing to do. She does the kind of junk good girls like you can’t even begin to imagine.

I wanted to find out more even if it was going to be painful. Skye seemed to have the information that I needed but before I could ask her anything else she headed back to her room and slammed the door. I turned to Marlene with tears threatening to fall again any minute.

What do you think she meant by that?

I don’t know. Maybe they’re into strange sex like BDSM. But she’s right; stay out of it, forget about Tyrone, and move on with your life.

Tyrone used the same expression. He told me that thee thing between him and Clarice is complicated. Somebody needs to tell me what that means. I started hyperventilating. I was getting desperate for answers. I walked over to Skye’s room and knocked on her door. A few seconds later, she opened it and glared at me.

If you’re going to ask me about Tyrone and Clarice, I’m going to give you the exact same answer I just gave you so save your breath. She slammed the door shut.

I finished my studies and graduated. My parents were thrilled because none of my other siblings seem interested in getting a college degree. I decided to move back to New York with Marlene to work as project manager in a small construction company while she tried to start a graphic design business.

Everything seemed to be going well for about a year. I dated a few men, but nothing serious and definitely nothing physical. Then one morning my phone started buzzing repeatedly while I was in an important meeting, so I couldn’t answer. I wasn’t expecting communication from anybody and whenever there’s an emergency my family and close friends know they need to call my office number. A few hours went by before I finally took up my cell phone to find that there were five text messages and three missed calls.

Imagine my complete surprise when I found out that all of them were from Tyrone. I couldn’t believe that he still had my number and that I had somehow never deleted his. My mind wandered back to that last conversation we’d had a few months before.

    ***

You deliberately lied to me, Tyrone. You told me that you were through with Clarice and it turns out that you’re still sleeping with her! I don’t recognize my own voice as I shout angrily at him.

Technically I never told you we were through. You just assumed that because I asked you to forgive me, he answers calmly.

What exactly are you trying to say? You said ‘I promise it won’t happen again’. I remember that clearly.

I’m not trying to say anything. I’m telling you that I never lied to you.

Then what did you mean by that promise?

    I don’t know. It wasn’t a lie.

Oh so you don’t think that cheating on your girlfriend is lying?

It’s not cheating if there aren’t any feelings involved.

What? Are you kidding me? You had sex with her over and over again! How can you sit there and tell me no feelings were involved? You had to feel something otherwise why would you risk losing your girlfriend that you allegedly love?

He looks away and shrugs. I stare at him for a few seconds. I can’t believe we’re having this conversation. I can’t believe he’s still deliberately having sex with the same skank. Most of all I can’t believe I trusted him and simply assumed that it was over between them.

Tyrone, I don’t understand. Please explain it to me as if I’m a three-year old. Why would you come looking for me if you weren’t going to end it with her?

My hands and knees are still shaking, I’m still sitting on the floor, and I feel like I’m about to throw up. The screen on his phone broke when it slipped out of my hand and it’s right next to me. It starts buzzing but he doesn’t even try to pick it up.

Tyrone sits on the bed— our bed— and I wonder if he’s ever had sex with her here while I was in class or at my job. The thought makes me shudder and I try to push the image of him touching her naked body on my bed out of my mind.
