Andrew had spent his lunch break in the florists, choosing flowers for his fiancee, but, he thought now, it had turned out to be a waste of time. He just didn’t seem to understand Steph these days. One minute she was telling him how happy she was, and the next she was picking an argument over the smallest thing.
He knew he was pushing his luck working late again – the third evening in a row – and he couldn’t deny he’d bought the flowers as a peace offering. But he thought Steph understood that all the hours he was putting in at the office stood him in good stead for promotion. And a better job meant more money to save for their wedding.
He started to explain it when he rang her at the hairdressers where she worked. But she’d cut him off sharply.
