Peggy Buxton

Author, wife, lover, and amputee. I have been missing my left leg for years. Growing up I felt that it should not be there, and it is has been a blessing to have it gone. Today's term for this condition is BIID and in the past simply referred to as being a 'wannabe'. I am a full-time crutch user. Like my husband, I find amputees fascinating. 'Devotee' is the frequently used term. My stories have characters that mirror my life in some manner - wanted/needed to be an amputee or want to live with an amputee. I make no apology for my descriptions of these people and there is no intent to take away from the suffering of some amputees. I love feedback on the stories, but I cannot promise to reply.

Trouble in Paradise, Sabrina Ruiz, Surgeon - Peggy Buxton

    Chapter 1 - Lakefront

Shaun Clavert leaned on the railing of the deck staring out onto Lake Stonewater. A glass of whiskey covered in condensation provided refreshment in the warm glow of the setting sun. His life was quite different now than before he met his next door neighbor, Eliana Monroe. He sipped a little more of his drink, sucked one of the melting ice cubes, then shifted his weight onto the other foot.

I still can’t believe she’s gone, Nora said, rubbing his hip with her only hand.

He looked down at his wife sitting in her wheelchair, at the way she looked missing both legs and an arm. He had worked with Nora at Manning’s Pharmacy for a few months and thought she was the most horrible person because she always gave him such a hard time about everything, especially his inability to have a girlfriend.

If I had never met Eliana, I doubt we would have ever gotten together.

True, but she was a friend to both of us by then. I owe her so much for helping pay for the trip to India. She rubbed his hip again, then used the short stump of her right arm to drive the powered wheelchair towards the house. Can I get you anything? She drove though the open French doors.

Shaun turned around and leaned against the railing, sipped the last of the drink, staring at the lakefront house that now belonged to him and Nora. They had lived there since the wedding, and it was the smallest of the bequeaths in Eliana’s will. He would never need to work at a place such as the pharmacy, or any menial job. He would never need to work anywhere if he chose.

Eliana had set up a trust sufficient for Nora’s care for the rest of her life. He was the trustee, and took the responsibility seriously. Nora meant the world to him, and became his fantasy lady when they traveled to India so Dr. Ruiz could amputate both legs and the arm in an attempt to reduce the effects of an insidious mental illness known as BIID. So far, it had, though Nora still mentioned having the remaining arm amputated.

Ready for a refill? Nora said, raising the bottle of Knob Creek bourbon and pouring some in his glass. It had become their favorite whiskey after a visit from a friend.

To us, he said, lifting the glass in a toast before sipping. How’s Tabitha?

Still has her arm. Nora laughed. I guess we both see the value in keeping it, even if we know it shouldn’t be there.

You are doing so well after just six months.

Thanks to you. She sipped a little of her drink. Keeping a short arm stump was a wise choice.

Her form of BIID made her feel she should have no limbs, no stumps, just hips and shoulders. Most people described BIID using the analogy of a transgendered person believing they were trapped in a body with the wrong gender, only with BIID the body should have some disability - most often missing limbs. There were some that felt they should be a paraplegic, or blind. Some even sensed a need to have multiple disabilities - missing an arm and blind.

I got an email from Sabrina. She asked how I was doing. Sabrina Ruiz was a surgeon that also had BIID, having had her left leg amputated. At work she wore a prosthetic leg, but other times used crutches. She’s keeping busy. Nora laughed.

    How many?

Six last week. Nora sipped, moved the wheelchair some. Three more women, two lost a leg, the other both legs.

Ever feel like you should have spaced things out?

Nope. I love the way I am. For now, and maybe the next few years I’ll be okay. Who knows, maybe forever.

Tabitha mentioned a guy that lives with two torsos.

Lee Hudson. She sipped the last of the drink, feeling the warmth the bourbon sent though what remained of her body. He has more money that God. She laughed. Imagine. She refilled her glass. For some reason, tonight she wanted to get drunk, and because of her substantially reduced body weight, it did not take much. I understand there’s a little trouble in paradise at Lee’s.

What, does Audrey want to be a torso, too? He laughed. Who’d take care of Inez and Krista?

Audrey Larson was the abled-bodied caregiver for Inez Hughes and Krista Drake. She also managed the household staff and the other caregivers. She quickly became an intimate part of the polyamorous family.

No, Inez’s exhusband, Leon is acting like he wants her back.

I thought he only liked single leg amputee ladies...white ones at that. He groaned. And I understood Lee gave him like half a million to go away.

Quarter million. Nora chuckled. Leon had a good thing after Carol went to see Ruiz and had her leg off at the hip.

That’s what Inez had the first trip. Can’t Leon be happy?

Carol left him. He tossed her out when she said she wanted both arms amputated.

    Oh, my-y. Then what?

She begged him to take her back, that she was just considering losing the arms. I guess that truce is still in effect. I don’t understand.

Does Inez want to go back?

Hell, you’ve heard about Lee’s houses and yachts, would you want to give that up? I surely wouldn’t.

The house on Lake Hollowston alone sounds fantastic, but the one in the Cayman Islands is 12,000 square feet right on the ocean. The two hundred foot yacht is totally wheelchair accessible, too.

I’m very happy with what we have. She sipped the last of the drink and set the glass on the railing. She pulled the tee shirt off and dropped it on the deck. This give you any ideas? She rubbed the bulging front of his Spandex swimsuit.

Thanks to new fencing along the sides of the property, there was total seclusion in their backyard, especially on the deck. He lifted her legless body and carried her to the mat where Nora often sunbathed.

Show me some of the things Eliana taught you. She ripped his swimsuit down to his ankles, and took him deeply in her mouth.

    Chapter 2 - Lakes

Three lakes were formed after building the Ostborough Dam and two smaller dams on the Ostborough River in the 1950’s. The largest, Lake Hollowston covered a hundred square-miles with nearly 900 miles of shoreline. A 60 foot wide lock allowed large boats to transit from the lake to the river, then to the ocean 150 miles to the east. The other two lakes, Lake Stonewater and Lake Brookden were each about half the size of Hollowston.

Small towns, both old and new developed along the shores of the lakes. Highways were built and residential development boomed over the next fifty years. Northwood was the largest city with over five-million residents, and 100 miles from Lake Stonewater, 200 from Lake Hollowston.

Lee Hudson unfastened the dock lines on the 44 foot Catalina sailboat, Limbless while Audrey made sure Inez and Krista had their life jackets fastened securely, and was strapped to the bench on the rear deck. The wind was calm so he
