Chapter Two: Characters
Katsumi Hosokawa
Katsumi Hosokawa is one of the most significant characters of the novel. He happens to be the head of a major Japanese electronics firm.
Hosokawa is an extremely hardworking man. He believes in living an orderly life, and his life is marked with complete diligence.
While he happens to be listening to opera, he feels that he is passionately alive. He adores the voice of the opera singer Roxanne Coss.
He comes to the poor South American country only because he is attracted to the voice of that opera singer.
The story of the novel is set in that poor South American country.
Hosokawa falls in love with Coss.
Roxanne Coss
Roxanne Coss happens to be an opera diva. She is quite used to the indulgence of the world.
As the story progresses the people who hear her singing fall in love with her.
