DEDICATION
This ebook is dedicated to everyone who has ever been bullied, and especially those who are being bullied even as you read this. It's also dedicated in memory of those who have lost their lives due to the effects of the cruel and sadistic actions of heartless troublemakers. If this book can help one person live a more bully-free
life, then it's served its purpose well.
FIRST, A SHORT INTRODUCTION
Bullying. By now, every student in America is familiar with that word. And, while they all know it happens whether they're in school or online, there aren't many adults who are willing help them deal with it. Unless they've experienced it themselves, they think it's just teasing
and the best way is to simply ignore it.
But it's a lot more than 'teasing', it takes many different forms that go way beyond words, and its effects can be worse – much worse – than anyone can imagine. Most of the bullies' methods are hard to ignore, since they're in your face
.
Now, before I go any farther, there's something that every adult must understand: This first part of the book deals primarily with bullying that children face at school, in age-specific activities or even on the internet. I said CHILDREN
- not adults
! And the effects that bullying has on them can be a lot rougher than you'd imagine (remember when you were a child?? Then you probably know what I mean, right?). So don't brush it off
or minimize the impact that it has on kids. Remember: What may seem trivial to us can mean the world to them!
Over the past few years, they've have seen faces of their friends and schoolmates plastered on the front pages of newspapers – kids who were bullied but, because they didn't know how to handle it, ended up cutting themselves, suffering breakdowns that hurt not only themselves but others, or committing suicide. No question in anyone's mind: bullying has to be stopped!
SCHOOLS: Please note that there will be a special section addressed to you at the end of this ebook, just before the bibliography. I urge you to read it carefully. Thank you.
TO THE YOUNG VICTIMS OF BULLYING:
Through the following pages, we're going to come up with ways you can keep from being bullied, or stop it if it does happen. Now, in putting this book together, I was helped by many friends who learned how to handle the problem successfully when they were bullied, as well as all kinds of information from various anti-bullying organizations throughout the U.S., England, Australia and Canada.
But there's more: you'll also read other victims' stories about their encounters with bullies. Some of these might surprise you, because you've probably heard of or seen most of them. And you'll also find a safety plan that you'll want to print (or write) out, fill in and keep just in case you need it.
By the way, you'll also see some of the initial points being repeated in other sections. I've done it for the same reason that lyrics or certain musical notes are repeated in many hit records. They're done that way to
