About this audiobook

Fake.

Being the heir to Jacobs Enterprises, I’ve been around fake people my entire life. I promised myself a long time ago that I wouldn’t change for anyone. Which is the only reason I’m a professional hockey player who lives on the beach and does as he pleases without answering to anyone—except my father.

And now, my daughter.

Being a single dad wasn’t in the plan but after a one-night stand who took off after the baby was born, this is my reality.

My dad’s been harping on me to quit hockey and join the company for years and now that I’m a father, he’s only intensified his efforts. Until he makes me a deal I can’t refuse.

Insert Lena Boyd, the Jacobs’ family PR rep. She’s beautiful and intelligent and not at all the woman for me—ask anyone.

My dad needs us to act happily engaged and sell the idea that we’re in love. If we’re successful I won’t have to join the family legacy—ever. Of course, I agree.

That’s when things get complicated. I thought I had her all figured out until I found out there was more underneath her judgmental sneers and eye rolls. It feels like everything is coming together for the future I really want—with Lena—until my past ruins everything.

Good but Lena had to be the most frustrating woman ever!

I really could not get behind Lena. She was talked about as if she were this strong, intelligent, and independent woman but honestly came across as a whiny, indecisive person who kept having epiphanies about what she wanted and how Ford was a good man, then doing absolutely nothing to follow through or the opposite of what you would expect. Typical of this series, the ending was anticlimactic. I enjoyed this book the least in the series this far

Faking with #41 is an enjoyable ice hockey read with some explicit spice. The storyline is predictable but I enjoyed the majority of the tropes and how they played out.

Ford is the classic arrogant, rich hockey player trying to prove his father wrong and has a slight chip on his shoulder. Lena is a likeable heroine but doesn't bring anything amazing to the table. She's very surface-level as a character. She didn't seem to have any firm opinions on anything and constantly had self-esteem issues. I was confused about how Ford didn't want Lena looking after Annabel all of a sudden when she was constantly involved in Annabel's care prior to the fake engagement.

I really wasn't keen on the mother coming back into the picture but only because of how the ending played out. I wanted the trope to play out a bit differently, instead, it was very quick to turn and left a bitter taste in my mouth because it rushed the story.

The female narrator sounds like a 98year old man when she does ford's part?‍♀️
The book is ok so far, still listening!
