- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Marvelous book on a powerful concept and theory and therapy. Even in this simplified form, it takes some real study. The concept is not so hard to grasp, if one perserveres. I strongly recommend for anyone interested in the understanding and healing of trauma or emotional or neurological dysfunction. The approach as a neurological web that can be optimized is really useful.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I have just started reading this book but I am already hooked and have recommended it to several of my friends. I have found the information very interesting and I'm hoping as I get deeper into the book that it will help me to resolve some of my life long issues.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I received this book as a duplicate order and planned to return it. Once I talked with a colleague about it he became so interested in the polyvagal theory he offered to buy it. It so much easier to use this Guide for discussion groups than the complete text of the theory. Although I can not judge fairly since I am on the third reading of the Theory itself. I understand the different views and applications adopted by others in the Guide. Concepts I struggle with in the research framework became much clearer in discussion. I find it particular useful it developing course work for Special IEPs and lesson plans. I am very glad I didn't return it.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Really interested discussion that really opened my eyes to how important human to human engagement is in how our nervous system operates. Porges speaks with a tone of clear authority on the topic and the dialogue and repetition really help bring home the theory and make it clearer for us less "scientific" readers to digest. A very intriguing theory with a lot of potential to heal and better understand yourself in the realm of your nervous system.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A much easier read than his main work, Polyvagal Theory. Covers the main aspects of the work without so much hyper-scientific language.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Wonderful information. This takes a dense topic and makes it accessible to the layperson. Don't be deterred by the definitions at the beginning. Get past that and then it is a series of conversations/interviews with the author where he speaks simple language to explain his theory. There's some repetition between chapter, but it helps reinforce the concepts. It's highly practical information for all people- whether traumatized or not. Safety first!!
