About this audiobook

A 2022 Audie Award Finalist

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Then She Was Gone comes “her best thriller yet” (Harlan Coben, New York Times bestselling author) about a young couple’s disappearance on a gorgeous summer night, and the mother who will never give up trying to find them.

On a beautiful summer night in a charming English suburb, a young woman and her boyfriend disappear after partying at the massive country estate of a new college friend.

One year later, a writer moves into a cottage on the edge of the woods that border the same estate. Known locally as the Dark Place, the dense forest is the writer’s favorite place for long walks and it’s on one such walk that she stumbles upon a mysterious note that simply reads, “DIG HERE.”

Could this be a clue towards what has happened to the missing young couple? And what exactly is buried in this haunted ground?

“Utterly gripping with richly drawn, hugely compelling characters, this is a first-class thriller with heart” (Lucy Foley, New York Times bestselling author) that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

I was expecting a thriller and was disappointed. A good book but nothing worth recommending.

I tend to avoid audiobooks that run for more than 6 hours but gave this one a chance due to the many glowing reviews. Ms Jewell’s characters were well conceived, their relationships nicely choreographed but it was the narrator’s deft animation of every role that kept me listening, right through to the story’s unexpected and satisfying ending. Bravo, Joanne Froggatt!

Suspenseful, almost too suspenseful if you're impatient. But characters are so well developed that they could just right off the page and walk through the door. Definitely worth the wait to get to the climax/conclusion

Boring and slow. A lot of chapters didn’t add to the story. Narrator is amazing though, she’s the only reason why I kept listening. However half way through with no new development to the mystery, I decided it wasn’t worth finishing.

The author knows how to use unadorned language to let her well drawn characters take center stage. The plot is excellent—everything is completely believable, and she uses interlapping time periods to build suspense. It is a bit long, especially the ending, but overall a very satisfying read.

Okay, hooked all the way thru the Epilogue!
Young parents go missing right from the start. Where are they? What happened to them? How could they leave their son? Each new character that's added raises new suspicions. Intersecting love triangles. Twists to the very end! I'll be looking into more Lisa Jewell novels if they're all like this!!

It was alright, after you’re 3/4th of the book in, you can kind of guess what happened. Interesting listen nonetheless.
