About this audiobook

This instant New York Times bestseller and “claustrophobic spine-tingler” (People) from Ruth Ware follows a group of employees trapped on a snow-covered mountain.

Getting snowed in at a luxurious, rustic ski chalet high in the French Alps doesn’t sound like the worst problem in the world. Especially when there’s a breathtaking vista, a full-service chef and housekeeper, a cozy fire to keep you warm, and others to keep you company. Unless that company happens to be eight coworkers…each with something to gain, something to lose, and something to hide.

When the cofounder of Snoop, a trendy London-based tech start-up, organizes a weeklong trip for the team in the French Alps, it starts out as a corporate retreat like any other: presentations and strategy sessions broken up by mandatory bonding on the slopes. But as soon as one shareholder upends the agenda by pushing a lucrative but contentious buyout offer, tensions simmer and loyalties are tested. The storm brewing inside the chalet is no match for the one outside, however, and a devastating avalanche leaves the group cut off from all access to the outside world. Even worse, one Snooper hadn’t made it back from the slopes when the avalanche hit.

As each hour passes without any sign of rescue, panic mounts, the chalet grows colder, and the group dwindles further…one by one.

Editor's Note

A modern-day Agatha Christie…

A chilling tale of a corporate retreat gone wrong from mystery maven Ruth Ware (“The Woman in Cabin 10”, “The Turn of the Key,” “In a Dark Dark Wood”). When an avalanche leaves employees of a tech startup snowed in at a resort in the French Alps, terror takes over, wiping out any chance of bonding. One by one, each member of the group must fight to survive in what Booklist calls “[Agatha Christie’s] ‘And Then There Were None’ rendered for the twenty-first century.”

Another great one by Ruth Ware. Knew who the killer was by mid book. Still great twist and turns. Kinda gave me a CLUE vibe. (Lol) Once again, Imogen Church is an amazing narrator.

This book has the claustrophobic feel of a country house mystery with the added drama of an avalanche and a fairly surprising murderer. The narrator is absolutely fantastic on the audiobook.

Suspenseful, a bit long having to reiterating various points of view - I get it.

Sorry, not one of my favorites from Ruth Ware, whom I love. I found it pretty predicable and I wanted more details on the characters backstories. Looking forward to the next one. Love the narrator, who always does a good job.

Overdone tropes; it felt a lot like The Guest List

And Then There Were None + The Guest List

10 current/former employees of a booming UK music app startup (for those of you from the States, think Silicon Valley yuppies) decide to take a holiday at a French chalet to make the biggest decision of their lives. When an avalanche hits, they and the two workers start to see what lies in the heart of (wo)men..

I enjoyed this book. It’s my first Ruth Ware (and won’t be my last). What would have made it a 5-star for me was structuring the book a bit differently so that it wasn’t obvious from before the halfway point “whodunit.” I don’t want to say much more than that for spoilers, but I think you’ll see when you get there. I did love the way she fleshed out the characters, and the way she opened each chapters.

Buy this for yourself or someone looking for a no -so-cozy mystery. If you’re twisted, get it for someone about to go on their first ski trip.

I loved this book! Took the time to develop characters and it truly had me questioning who the killer was. And all I can say is, this is the best narrator I have ever heard!!!!

I burned through the first part of the book. It slowed considerably. Last 1.5 hours were unnecessary.

For someone having a reading slump, a fast pace thriller could really help. There's a lot of characters here, but the narrator did a great job distinguishing all of them.

I've always enjoyed Ruth Ware's writing. This book has a good twist in it and a good ending but it did feel a little long in the end after the major climax. Overall I would recommended this book to friends.

The book is good, the story kept interesting all the way through, the problem is that one of the characters is just unlikable, and the book trying to spin the killer as a victim ended up feeling forced. It's clear the narrative is trying to evoke pity, but it just doesn't work when put against what they did and how they acted, which makes the narrative feel weak in that regard.
Not this author's best work, but an interesting read nonetheless.

I couldn’t put the book down until I finished it completely. A fascinating listen. The woman who read the book is one of the best I have listened to. Recommend this book whole heartedly.

Ruth Ware seems to favor ‘locked room’ type scenarios. But I’m not mad about it! People always seem to be stuck somewhere and trying to figure out what happened.
I was on the edge of my seat with this book. 10 people going on a corporate ski trip, in a semi secluded area during a snow storm. What could go wrong right?! There were so many twists and turns in this book. I enjoyed how the time line alternates between Erin and Liz. It seemed like we got little glimpses of what was unfolding and why, piece by piece. A few things I didn’t see coming. There was a lot going on in this story and a lot of characters, but it wasn’t so much that it was hard to keep track.
I enjoyed this story overall and I’m wondering why I waited so long to read it!!!!

I just found some of it cheesy , for lack of a better word, and somewhat predictable in many parts.
I was puzzled by the way two of the main characters were trying to get back together or get back at each other (I’m not sure which.)

First time reading this author. Good little mystery even though I figured out the killer before anyone died.

A little too obvious for regular sleuths, but enjoyable!
    Open to reading others.

Why was it sooooooooooooooo long? It was a good story but it took forever. I kept thinking it was going to end the audiobook would show 4 more hours, 3 more hour, an hour and a half. Geez.... also, the ending was cheesy. Ohhhhh the beginning was unnecessary. Some of the names were so similar that it took me a while to sort the characters out. The "snoop subscribers" announcement each time was redundanted. Good book it just needs to be edited.

I loved this book because of the mystery and intrigue. I loved the characters and their roles in the story. I loved the attention to relevance of the times we live in. I loved that even the insignificant things mattered.
