About this audiobook

The New York Times bestselling “new Agatha Christie” (Air Mail) Ruth Ware returns with this adrenaline-fueled thriller that combines Mr. and Mrs. Smith with The Fugitive about a woman in a race to clear her name and find her husband’s murderer.

Hired by companies to break into buildings and hack security systems, Jack and her husband, Gabe, are the best penetration specialists in the business. But after a routine assignment goes horribly wrong, Jack arrives home to find her husband dead. To add to her despair, the police are closing in on their suspect—her.

Suddenly on the run and quickly running out of options, Jack must decide who she can trust as she circles closer to the real killer in this unputdownable and heart-pounding mystery from an author whose “propulsive prose keeps readers on the hook and refuses to let anyone off until all has been revealed” (Shelf Awareness).

Not good. This story dragged on and on and on. It felt like there was a word limit the author was trying to reach because it was so repetitive. The descriptions weren't creative. The main character was described as shaking or trembling every other paragraph. Another reviewer mentioned too many f bombs and I agree. It was gratuitous and came out of nowhere. It also was hard to believe Jack was smart because she didn't pick up on anything. This one was disappointing, I would skip it.

The narration is great. The story was good too, but predictable.

Couldn’t finish. Entire story hinges on main character making wild assumptions and foolish decisions. Opening scene was really good, thought the story would continue with this badass character, but it went downhill from there with unnecessary suspense and fear that didn’t match up with the sly character introduced in the first chapter. “Oh no! What if they noticed me?” And “Uh oh! Better jump off a moving train just in case!” Pretty disappointed.

Ruth Ware does a great job of keeping you guessing up to the end of the book.

I saw a good many reviews saying this was peoples least favorite of Ruth Wares books. I, however, really enjoyed it. Married couple Jack and her husband Gabe are pin testers. That is penitration testing for cyber security. After a job, Jack comes home to find her husband when she had spoken to only a few hours ago dead. And she is being framed for his murder. Now, on the run from police she is making it her mission to find out who did this and why. How far will shengonto find answers? And how deep is the truth?

Not what I have come to expect from this author. Overwhelming descriptions of the narrator’s physical and emotional state (I felt horribly SICK; the pain in my side was UNBEARABLE), and not the twisty plot I hoped for.

DIY on getting into and out of building. How to hide in plane sight, if you are interested.

Too many F words for me. The narrator was great. The character ok. Not her best. But readable

An exciting and unique thriller. It felt very relevant to the times and I love a FMC I can cheer for.

Great narration! Imogen Church has such a way to showing emotion on her voice that makes the story come alive! The plot itself, is a bit predictable, but I enjoyed the development and the path it took.

Good story, amazing narration, LOTS of F bombs. I know it’s about how characters speak but it got to a point where I felt like there could have been a more creative way of writing out their thoughts and dialog.

I didn’t think I would ever give a Ruth ware book a one star if I could give it a zero I would. Everything was so obvious. The plot was pretty much see-through. I’m still going to try her next book but I couldn’t even finish this one I skimmed and was right about the plot.

Another great read by Ruth Ware! I only wish I didn’t have to wait as long between books.

I enjoyed the action and determined protagonist. It was not my favorite in terms of story, though, and I felt it was not the author’s best. I recommend, for a quick read or listen

Loved this book! One of my most favorite authors, read by my favorite voice actor! Thanks! A true dynamic duo! So happy this book was available so soon on Scribd. ?

Well, I just couldn’t align with the main character. Everything she did was so dumb - like walk thru the blood at the crime scene, not call 999, flee the police station - I couldn’t read it all. Sorry! And people say Ruth Ware is like Agatha Christie - I just couldn’t see it

I’m a huge Ruth Ware fan, but this is my least favorite book of hers. I really got tired of Jack to the point of not caring about the outcome of her predicament.
I also didn’t care for the narrator at all. I started listening at 1.2x speed and really had hoped I switched to 1.5x a lot earlier in the book than I did. I have heard this narrator before and some books were ok, but there were some that also difficult to listen to because of her narration. Maybe I would have liked the book better if I hadn’t listened to it and just read it.

It was ok. I got really tired of hearing how much things hurt....how the jolt of pain shot through, or the seeping warmth crept down her back. It was on and on about the pain.

I almost gave it one star solely bc it felt like an 9 hour long whine session. The story could have been but the on and on drag was endless. The reading was horrendous. It was like cats whining. I almost gave up. Usually I love Imogen Church.

I wouldn’t exactly call it a thriller… I love Ruth Ware, but this was a pretty disappointing book. Didn’t have a lot of twists and turns and didn’t keep me on the edge of my seat. I appreciate the attention to detail and it was an interesting subject matter, but it felt dragged out with very few surprises. I’ll still read her books, but this was probably my least favorite of all of hers.

After a promising start, I was looking forward to settling in for a nice adventure. But oh, Jack, oh... so annoying, whining, and not as bright as as I thought at first. I wanted a bit more back story on her and her sister, maybe that would have helped her character. Too many exclamations of "I'm about to do something really stupid" or "I feel like I'm going to throw up". Imogene was very good, as always, though she gets a little whiny in spots, which didn't help.

While I usually like this author, this book was incredibly predictable from the first sentence about the villain until the twist at the end.

Excessive profanity throughout this book. The main character was whiny. I only read it because I enjoyed “The It Girl” so much. It was a disappointment to say the least and I nearly didn’t finish it. I do not recommend this book.

Wow! So good! This should definitely be made into a movie. The writing was excellent and the story had me on my toes from the very beginning until the very last line. Another one well done, Ruth!

Couldn’t get through it. Implausible, boring, and tedious. I’d suggest skipping this one.
