About this audiobook

“Shocking, disturbing, and utterly original.” —Paula Hawkins, #1 New York Times bestselling author

This “haunting and poignant tale, one that won’t be easy to forget any time soon” (Mystery and Suspense Magazine), follows an enigmatic woman confronting her unknown past—from internationally bestselling author Liz Nugent.

Reclusive Sally Diamond is thrust into the media spotlight when she tries to incinerate her dead father, causing widespread outrage. Now she’s the center of attention, not only from hungry reporters and police detectives, but also a sinister voice from a past she does not remember. As she begins to discover the repressed memories of her horrific early childhood, Sally steps into the world for the first time, making new friends, big decisions, and learning that people don’t always mean what they say.

But who is the man observing Sally from the other side of the world, and why does he call her Mary? And why does her new neighbor seem to be obsessed with her? Sally’s trust issues are about to be severely challenged in this “truly incredible reading experience” (Lisa Jewell, #1 New York Times bestselling author).

No closure, open ending. Like an unfinished story. It is so frustrating because the start and middle were so good. But then in the end, there were too many loose ends. I feel like this is a setup for a series. Too many things happened in the end with no resolution. Disappointing because the book was a good character analysis. Like Lisa Jewell books. Poignant thrillers. I hope the author will finish the story.

This is the first book I've read by this author and I really enjoyed it. The story was emotionally harsh, but it was somehow told in a way that didn't leave me feeling drained as darker storylines often do. I'm going to read more Liz Nugent now...

My new favorite author! Sally was the epitome of childhood trauma and was written so relatably.
Written with compassion and hope; yet twisted as hell; couldn't stand anyone trying to talk to me while listening. Finished in one day.

Very creepy, but a captivating story. I’m coming to revere Liz Nugent as one of the greats in thriller literature. The endings are never reassuring lol. The only reason I’m giving it a 4 is because I don’t know if i would read it again- it was pretty dark particularly the chapters with Peter/Steve and his father.

This was such a great read! The character development is something you just don’t see in a suspense/psychological thriller. Think of Sally Diamond as Elizabeth Zott had she been severely traumatized as a child. Just excellent!

The book is a little disturbing because it centers around child abduction, but it was superbly written and was a very captivating story.

I was sad for this book to end. The character development, especially that of Sally and Peter, was excellently constructed. The story and dialogue were outstanding. A+ audio narration too!
