About this audiobook
“Other authors are at a ten out of ten, for me, and Lisa is a solid hundred.” —Gillian McAllister, The Sunday Times (London) bestselling author of Wrong Place Wrong Time
The #1 New York Times bestselling author Lisa Jewell weaves a “simply masterful” (Samantha Downing, internationally bestselling author) thriller about twisted marriages, fractured families, and deadly obsessions in this standalone sequel to The Family Upstairs.
Early one morning on the shore of the Thames, DCI Samuel Owusu is called to the scene of a gruesome discovery. When Owusu sends the evidence for examination, he learns the bones are connected to a cold case that left three people dead on the kitchen floor in a Chelsea mansion thirty years ago.
Rachel Rimmer has also received a shock—her husband, Michael, has been found dead in the cellar of his house in France. All signs point to an intruder, and the French police need her to come urgently to answer questions about Michael and his past that she very much doesn’t want to answer.
After fleeing London thirty years ago in the wake of a horrific tragedy, Lucy Lamb is finally coming home. While she settles in with her children and is just about to purchase their first house, her brother takes off to find the boy from their shared past whose memory haunts their present.
As they all race to discover answers to these convoluted mysteries, they will come to find that they’re connected in ways they could have never imagined.
In this masterful standalone sequel to her haunting New York Times bestseller The Family Upstairs, “Lisa Jewell is a superb writer at the top of her game” (Karin Slaughter, New York Times bestselling author) with another jaw-dropping, intricate, and affecting novel about the lengths we will go to protect the ones we love and uncover the truth.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I was so excited to learn that there is a sequel to "The Family Upstairs". This book did not disappoint. I do recommend that you read the books in order because this one is built on that one.
This book weaves in a couple new major characters and jumps around a bit in time. I found it to be very satisfying, which is why I stayed up until 1:30 a.m. to finish it.
Multiple narrators usually annoy me but the team that did this book were excellent so kudos to them, the production crew and, of course, Lisa Jewell. At least I didn't scream "NO!!!" as I did for the last line of the first book.1 person found this helpful
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Wow – what a great sequel! Definitely kept my interest from page one and thoroughly enjoyed the continuing saga of the Family Upstairs. Although it says this book can stand alone so you don’t need to read the first one, I definitely recommend both but reading them in order. The narration was VERY excellent

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Sequel to The Family Upstairs and I liked it. It was a little frustrating thpugh because I felt some of the major drama was not fully dealt with.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Unbelievable book … although I expected no less from my favorite of all time authors miss Lisa Jewell. As soon as I heard this came out, I begin reading it immediately or should I say listening to it and after a few chapters in I loved it, but I was having trouble remembering the family upstairs part one of this book, and I decided to go back and listen to that whole thing Straight through before beginning this one again I would recommend definitely doing that because then it all makes sense and it’s an incredible two-part books, which I wish she would do more of actually wish she would just write books constantly because I just only want to read all of her books all the time and incredible offer and she picks the most unbelievable narrators was just really pull the homework together Still, I have to say my favorite of her narrators is Helen duff, but Image and church is very good as well as well as all of these narrators in this book. Just perfection. Read it immediately.!!!!!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Lots of twists and turns. It is definitely a gripping story and I loved how all came together!!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Wow!! This book just came out and as soon as I saw it was a continuation of The Family Upstairs i was super excited. If you liked The Family Upstairs you will love this one because it has some closure that you will not expect as first but you need it.
Definite TW for SA - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5What a ride! It was captivating and appalling at times. Riveting and suspenseful.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Events seemed unrealistic, but it was entertaining and answered all the questions I had from the first book.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A very solid follow up to the family upstairs. Characters were well delve looked and the plot moved along at all times. There was one rather large plot whole with Finn* - I’ll put it with a spoiler warning at the end. Other than that I found this book far more enjoyable than it’s predecessor as there was more tension and all of the different characters’ paths made a bit more sense.
Excellent narration from the entire cast.
** mild spoiler from the family upstairs
Finn never re-established contact with anyone including his sister in the last book.. but yet in this book she reaches out to him… and there’s never a mention of how she, but none of the others, knew where he was. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Love Lisa Jewel's taut writing & plot constructions. I do wish there'd have been more backstory about the parents who created the House of Horrors and what actually happened. The readers were excellen, but the American accents are terrible. Do we really sound that awful to Brits?
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Lisa is one of my favorite writers. This book is not as captivating as her other books, in my opinion, or the standaloneish first book, however, I am always engaged when reading/listening to anything she write
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I’m still waiting to read something from Lisa Jewell that I DON’T love. Hasn’t happened yet!! Fantastic book and excellent follow-up to The Family Upstairs. Highly recommend!!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The plot had unique twists and excellent character development. I would have preferred different word choices. It is possible to quarrel without foul language.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Such a great book! Really enjoyed how all the story lines came together.
