About this audiobook

Adventure. It's what my boring life is missing, so when I fall through a portal into another world, I'm excited. Here, I'm important. Here, I'm special.

I find out just how special when I meet Death. He's been exiled to the mortal realm to work through his flaws, and he's just as spoiled and awful as you'd think. Rhagos, the Shadow Lord, is arrogant and rude and controlling and demands to get his way. He's selfish. He's impossible.

He's also utterly gorgeous. Magnetic. Lonely. And strangely protective of me.

Thanks to a magic bond, I now serve him as his anchor to the mortal realm. It means that I'm his conscience, his guide . . . and the target for any assassin or glory-seeker. After a few days of this, I'd rather go home than continue on this adventure.

As the world falls down around us and we're hunted simply for existing, I find myself wondering what it'd be like to serve the lonely god of death . . . in all ways. To kiss him. To touch him. To bed him.

Except . . . I'm supposed to be finding a way home, not trying to kiss Rhagos. No matter how tempting he is. No matter how much he stares at my lips. No matter how much I want it.

Contains mature themes.

Good but Max is a bit too stupid for my taste. I liked the first and third book in the series better.

Dumbest main character ever. Completely selfish, utterly useless, cannot comprehend any morality more complex than " benefits me = good". Coupled with an absolutely infuriating sense of entitlement to everyone's labor and information, Max is a dreadful person. Rhagos starts off as an incredibly boring dollar store Angel from Buffy, but ends up going full incel temper tantrum because WANT WOMAN. I'm sorry, he doesn't deserve to be happy. The book should have ended when Max died of stupidity and Rhagos was punished. Instead, we have the little idiot having to be dragged physically to the answers to questions she was too lazy or stupid to pursue. Then, of course after we're force fed a chapter about how she's super Not Like Other Girls, we finally find out what the hell the book was about. Lady, if you had written the characters you CLEARLY think you did, you wouldn't have had to grind your book to a halt for two chapters of apologetics for your characters' shitty, unconscionable behavior. I actually liked book 1, but this one was complete infuriating moist garbage. Do better.

I don’t know if it’s scribd or Ruby Dixon’s books but I have had so many issues with the audiobooks. The sound will stop randomly and in the particular book the audio keeps jumping to places further in the book and there’s no way to rewind because it’s like the section doesn’t exist. I’m giving up on this author for now.

The books themselves aren’t bad. Fun romantic rooms with a fantasy element. I find the writing to be a little unsophisticated, the plots poorly executed, and the romances rushed. The smut itself is fun, Book 1s was a little boring but book 3 was way more adventurous. Obviously I’ve been reading these out of order because the order isn’t clear on her page either.
