About this audiobook

A woman who's lost everything.

Taylor is looking for peace and quiet away from the memories of all she's lost. A small mountain town where no one knows her seems like the perfect escape.

A man battling the ghosts of his past.

Walker loves his life just the way it is. His town, his family, his brothers in blue. Everything simple and easy-until a chance encounter changes it all.

When Taylor's solitude is interrupted by the rugged cop, they find that the very thing they were avoiding might be just what they both need. As their iron wills clash and passion flares . . . a killer lurks.

And you never know who might be caught in the crosshairs.

This was a really good start to a series. I loved how Taylor ended up in Sutter Lake and started to build her own friendships in this small town. She and Walker have experiences with loss which allows them to connect on a similar level to each other after an initial butting of heads. Walker really helps Taylor come out of her shell and rutt a little bit. He makes her more aware of herself and brings out a side of her that she's lost along the way.

I adore the found family trope and this one really delivered on that. I love a granny figure in a book and she definitely delivered. There are some great side characters in this book, adding to the small-town vibes and really bringing that community feel. The plot running through added some suspense to the story and I thought it added a great layer to the characters and the town. I was constantly trying to figure out who had done it.

The Sutter Lake series is amazing! Beautiful romances, with strong characters and storylines that kept me listening. Narration was fabulous…Aaron Sherlock is one of my favs, and he pairs wonderfully with Maxine Mitchell!

REVIEW: “Then maybe one day, you won’t cry because of what you’ve lost, you’ll smile because of what you had.” Poignant and heart-warming, this book skillfully wraps real life losses into an intriguing mystery. It captures the loneliness and the desire to be away from well meaning friends. The setting was perfect and the characters were loveable. A great start to a new series. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation from the author and this is my voluntary review.DESCRIPTION, NOT REVIEW: A woman who's lost everything.
