About this audiobook

“You are the only Necromancer left.”Erick Darvaul has gone through fire, betrayal, and death to reach Broken Mountain. Now he intends to gather with other necromancers to once again destroy Eligos, the Master of Shadows that threatened the world a thousand years ago and had returned to threaten all life once more. But the others who practice his often maligned form of magic have either fallen or been seduced by the darkness of Eligos, and Erick is now on his own.But all is not lost, and hope blooms from despair. On the ancient battleground at Broken Mountain, Erick learns from his distant ancestors that there is another who may be willing to aid him in his fight: a witch woman known as Alais, who lives in the distant swamps, alone and powerful. Now Erick and his stalwart companions must begin another trek to strange places, dogged every step by enemies. For the power of Eligos is growing, and more are coming to his cause. And two former Necromancers, now in league with the dark one, have learned a new, dreadful magic, a hellish power that they hope will ensure Eligos rises victorious while the world burns.

How can a main character have so many repeating foibles, and be so governed by lust to the point of distraction? Then every time he even thinks about or has lusty thoughts, he can’t produce a coherent thought, even if just daydreaming… it’s a wonder he’s able to accomplish anything at all!
It’s been so frustrating over the last two books, because the story, at times, is so compelling and draws you in one moment, in the next some idiocy happens that repels me as a reader. Not even sure what the point was with him going into the unnecessary detail of the romantic scene, and the whole ordeal with the new tribe and minutes lasting antagonist, then a dual to the death? The characters continue to do one ridiculous thing after another, and make half informed decisions at every turn. The group never seem to think anything through fully, and then sometimes not even partly. It’s so weird that all the long term recurring characters in the story are being corrupted, killed, resurrected, killed again, resurrected again,… it is a weird literary method to do so, and then introduced all kind of new random characters with no provision of backstory or introduction…

Book is relatively good , definitely amped up the pro choice in the second book tho , great if you swing for the other side I guess but can be a little hard to maintain focus and get through some of the more graphic intimate scenes if your straight.

Enjoyable but I felt it was a little drawn-out in places, I will still read the next when available.

Aside from it being left at a cliff hanger, I really really love this series. The plot is the standard hero vs. villain, however it is nice to see a necromancer play the role of the hero. The characters are very gray with traits I like and dislike, they are written very well with development through the saga. And the parts written in perspective with the villain were my favorite. Very few books tell the story from the villain's perspective. I very much look forward to the next book in the series
