About this audiobook

The Mireces worship the bloodthirsty Red Gods. Exiled from Rilpor a thousand years ago, and left to suffer a harsh life in the cold mountains, a new Mireces king now plots an invasion of Rilpor’s thriving cities and fertile earth. Dom Templeson is a Watcher, a civilian warrior guarding Rilpor’s border. He is also the most powerful seer in generations, plagued with visions and prophecies. His people are devoted followers of the god of light and life, but Dom harbors deep secrets, which threaten to be exposed when Rillirin, an escaped Mireces slave, stumbles broken and bleeding into his village. Meanwhile, more and more of Rilpor’s most powerful figures are turning to the dark rituals and bloody sacrifices of the Red Gods, including the prince, who plots to wrest the throne from his dying father in the heart of the kingdom. Can Rillirin, with her inside knowledge of the Red Gods and her shocking ties to the Mireces King, help Rilpor win the coming war?

Nope. Not for me. Too violent and soulless. I am tired of evil protagonists

Would have loved less adult language in the book. Thank-you

    3.25 Stars for me.

The story itself is very good but the author goes into so much detail, especially on the torture scenes. I am debating on whether or not I will read the next book in the series as the MCs are always two steps behind and it is kind of a beating so how much they lose each time. It is a trilogy so it might get better but probably not until the end of the 3rd book. 25-30 hours more of the good guys getting severely beaten doesn't sound entertaining.

I feel like I need to say this so that you dont miss out on a good book. I was so happy when I saw this audiobook was available on Scribd but this narrator almost ruined the story for me and I had to turn it off at Chapter 7. All of her voices sounded the same and it was hard to tell the characters apart. If someone was sad or angry, I couldnt tell because her inflection never changed. Her loud swallowing every 3 paragraphs was really distracting. (Please edit that out for other listeners) However, the cringey way she pronounced "arse" was what finally made me turn it off. Do yourself a favor (if possible) and listen to the UK version of this instead. The book is definitely more enjoyable with the British narrator Maggie Ollerenshaw.

I think I will need to read this one for myself. It hops around a bit and if you are not hyper focused on listening, it can feel like you have no idea what’s going on.
