About this audiobook

Contessa Dahl has spent most of her life in a haze. As a rudderless orphan, most of her decisions involved her fists and feet and choosing to either fight or run. At twenty-eight, she’s chosen to clean up her act, and just in time.

She’s destined to be a special kind of leader.

Born into a reclusive group of Viking descendants in rural New Mexico, Tess was meant to become a link for them all—their queen and conduit. Her childhood abduction and the death of her parents meant her people, the Afótama, have had a hole in their web for too long. Now that she’s back at home, it’s Tess’s job to mend it.

But she can’t do it alone.

She needs a perfect mate to fill in her psychic gaps, and two men claim to be fated for the job. Harvey Lang, her childhood champion, and the group outsider Oliver Gilisson would fight to the death to win her. However, Fate has another monkey wrench thrown into the works for the reluctant new queen: to gain full control of her considerable power, she must find a way to keep them both.

Editor's Note

Modern-day Fantasy...

The reader and the heroine discover the world of the “Afótama,” peopled by Viking descendants living in New Mexico, at the same time. The only difference is the heroine is the Viking Queen, and she is supposed to be a conduit for all her people. To do this, however, she needs to find her mate to fill in her psychic gaps. As she adjusts to this strange new reality, she also adjusts to finding a mate or two, setting up a menage that explores all aspects of the new relationship.

You would think a more electronic voice than Alexa was narrating however it's actually a real person. She is very stilted and so annoying! Got my fingers crossed the next narrator use better because the second book is the only reason I suffered through this one.

I couldn't continue because of the electronic narration. I think it's a good enough story from the little I heard to pay a narrator. What a Shame.

5 stars for the story, I Love this series! It's a favorite of mine. Have read it many times.
I was disappointed in the audio version. 3 stars for the narration. The narration seemed off, mechanical at times, kind of like using Amazons text to speech on Kindle, tried adjusting the speed but either was to fast or to slow. Over all enjoyed listening to a favorite book. Would buy a copy if available. Would love to see the rest of the series and its spin offs, Norston Wolves and Hearth Hotel also in Audio.

Narrator is terrible. Can't listen to bad narration regardless if it's a good story

The book deserves a higher score. However the NARRATOR IS CRAP. There is no way to distiguish who is who as all male and all female voices sound the same :(

There needs to be a dual rating so we can rate the story and the narration. This was the WORST narration I've listened to in almost a year! The story was good, though I could do with less sex and more story. The narrator was consistently inconsistent. The heroine was worse than all others. Very stilted, emotionless and mechanical.

Stopped this during the first 10 minutes of the first chapter as the narration was terrible. Will have to read this one if you are that tempted.

Narrator speaks slowly and pauses dramatically for every sentence so I had to listen 1.5x speed. . . . and the story line seemed to take forever

I love this series so much! And I’ve heard Em Eldridge do an excellent job narrating other books. I didn’t want to believe the other reviews, but this narration is so below par. Playing it at 1.2x makes it slightly more palatable, but I’m so bummed. I love Holley’s writing and was so happy to see this series on Scribd!
