About this audiobook

She has always said if she was running, it’s because she was being chased. That’s never been more true.

It's Autumn, bookstore owner Harvey Beckett’s favorite time of year, and she's most excited about two things – her bookshop's float in the annual Harvest Parade and pumpkin everything. But when her best friend Mart finds the body of her running coach and high school gym teacher behind the bleachers one fall morning, Harvey becomes enthralled in a mystery that uncovers their quaint town's darkest secrets.

When Harvey's curiosity gets the best of her, she and her pup Mayhem find that maybe there are just some secrets better left undiscovered.

Editor's Note

Delightfully Cozy...

Bookstore owner and amateur sleuth Harvey Beckett returns in “Plotted for Murder,” part of Bookens’ “St. Marin’s Cozy Mystery” series. Harvey is a charming character, and her warmth, openness, and curiosity make her detective skills feel like a natural extension of who she is. Bookens’ writing is lively and fun, and it’s a pleasure to dive into the town of St. Marin’s and solve the mystery along with Harvey.

"Plotted For Murder" is another fantastic addition to the series that seamlessly intertwines cozy mystery with heavy, relevant themes. Set against the backdrop of Autumn, we follow Harvey Beckett, a bookstore owner who finds herself tangled in a complex web of secrets after a shocking discovery at the Harvest Parade. The discovery of her former coach's body sends ripples through their quaint town, and Harvey's curiosity propels her deeper into a mystery that unveils startling truths.

What stands out most is the book's thoughtful exploration of sexual violence and the importance of community support for survivors. The narrative approaches this sensitive topic with simplicity and clarity, ensuring that readers grasp the significant differences that compassion and understanding can make in the lives of those affected. It’s a refreshing touch that not only captivates but also educates.

Harvey’s journey reminds us that while some secrets should remain buried, the truth has the power to heal. This installment not only entertains but also invites reflection on societal issues that resonate today. If you’re looking for a cozy mystery that packs an emotional punch, this book is a must-read.

I have listened to all the previous books in this series. They have gotten too “preachy” for me to continue. They have stories about black history were good. The LGBTQ+ stuff is being shoved down our throats. Live your life, don’t force me to agree. The sexual assault angle is ok, I have been a victim more than once. Having all three in one book is too much. I’m done.

Meh. Like a Hallmark channel movie in an audio book. A little saccharine for my taste.

Another wonderful instalment in this lovely cozy mystery series. Although a very heavy topic it is handled with lots of love and the ending was fantastic.

The characters are strange. I am sure Harvey's ex husband has a diff version of why their marriage didn't work. He got out!! Dan, Harvey's present boyfriend she likes because he is as passive as she is righteous and crass. Pass on this author and this series if you want a realistic world version mystery. The characters are nauseating.

The romantic ending and the book’s moral of listening to people who have uncomfortable experiences, giving all people a voice and showing compassion.

Tired of the constant leftist agenda. I get it, support equal rights, married a black man, know the prejudice on BOTH sides of the b/w population but I read for enjoyment. Not politics.

I love mysteries and a cozy read seemed perfect for me but this is hardly a mystery. There are no clues and the mystery solves itself out of nowhere. The characters are vapid and cartoonish. The book style is very cheesy which isn’t my taste.
I edited my first review because it was harsh. I still don’t think the book deserves the reviews it has. I recommend you skip this one.

This narrator is too old for the project. I’m not sure exactly how old the MC is supposed to be, but she has a roommate and is just starting out in business, so I’m guessing low 30s, tops. Well the reader sounds at least 45, closer to 55. I’m not being ageist- it’s just that it makes everything seem just off.
And the male characters, ugh. The BF sounds like a goon, and he’s at least 70, I swear. The characters who are acknowledged as middle- to senior-aged are inexplicably given Southern or backwoods accents.
I tried going up a speed tick, but then she jus sounded jerky and awkward. I just do not think she is a very good narrator. Her poor performance definitely spoiled the story for me.
