About this audiobook

For fans of Holly Black's The Cruel Prince, Ilona Andrews' Kate Daniels Series, and Karen Marie Moning's Fever Series, Bridget E. Baker begins a saga of shocking truths, deadly intrigue, violent battle, and sisterly betrayal.

My mom should have killed me the day I was born.

Being a twin complicates the Evian line of succession, but Chancery Alamecha is fine letting Judica inherit the throne. After all, she’s the stronger sister—the merciless fighter, the ruthless politician, and the groomed heir. But something unexpected happens when Chancery tries on her mother’s staridium ring, forcing her into a role that she never wanted: the prophesied queen who will prevent the destruction of Earth.

Now I have to kill my sister.

Judica, enraged by this turn of events, vows to do anything to reclaim her rightful place as empress. Including challenging Chancery to a battle to the death. While Chancery is away training, she gets a taste of the human world, where she can do whatever she wants without family obligations. Now torn between a life she was born into and one that makes her happy, she must confront her treacherous sister—or cause the end of the world.

Chancery is so annoying and dumb… it was hard to finish listening.

It’s a good story but chancery is an young teenage girl that has no business rule anything. She gives empathy a hole new meaning. I enjoyed the story for the most part, just some part we’re a little ridiculous. I found myself understanding why her twin disliked her so much. I get it is a young adult book but really. I couldn’t imagine being 100s of years old and being ruled by a young naïve girl. That idea of the story was good just a little to Immature for me I guess.

This only barely didn't make it into a DNF list for me. I've read better fanfiction written by 12 year olds. The overwinded descriptions of every single thing is tedious, as is the overuse of oversized words and unrealistic conversation flow. And the amount of times I wanted to eyeroll and scream out all the obvious things not seen by the main character were nothing to do with the typical 3rd person reader perspective making things obvious and more the fact that the author pointed out a million times how elitist and superior the main character was, but then made her dumb as a post only in points where it was convenient to the plot. The overall plot idea is ok, which is why I finished this book, but don't plan to finish the series.

If you take out all the main characters crying and being selfish it's a good book but I had to make myself finish it after all her crying and only thinking her sister was the bad guy.

The author has conceived of a very interesting world, and the story has merit. The pacing was very uneven. Some parts are very slow. I'm new to SCRIBD, so I may have missed the categorization of this book as YA, which is not a genre I typically enjoy. If you're looking for YA, this would probably be interesting to you.

I loved the book and story but there were two distinct points in the audio that skipped portions and left me trying to figure out what I missed in the missing parts in Chapter 15 and also Chapter 33.

narration for male characters was emotion less. Engaging but lengthy

I really enjoyed this book, and the series as a whole, but I will warn you that this author uses the phrase 'even so' so often that I get angry every time I hear it. Sometimes it is used correctly, but more often than not it does not make sense.

The book is really good. If only the protagonist wasn’t this annoying and wouldn’t change her mind every time.
Granted it’s her character and it ultimately serves the plot… but if it was reading instead of listening I would not have finished the book.
All of the other characters are great and the story is really interesting. I just don’t like her.

I enjoyed it, though I found the teen whiny, but she got better. Also kinda find a certain love interest cringe like, although it's explained etc. Still wish the main character was older, mid 20s maybe. But that's also a personal preference as the closer in age the more relatable they are to me. Anyways I enjoyed the way I could close my eyes and picture it clearly which is always a great sign of a good book

Started off good , interesting world building. The end part is annoying and ridiculous. We are supposed to feel sorry for this person and the main characters a moron.

I read about 300 hundred books a year and this by far is one of the best fantasy fiction books I have ever read!
