About this audiobook

A human girl with a troubled past.

A fae prince from a stolen kingdom.

When he whisks her away to the fae realm, there is no going back to her old life.

Under the rule of a captivating queen, the kingdom of Fargelsi has brought the three fae lands to the brink of war. And now that same queen has her eyes set on a new pawn—a human girl.

Allied with the usurper king, the royals seek to overthrow all those who oppose their unmatched power. Unmatched—until Brea Robinson arrives and proves to be more than they bargained for.

As the motivations of those around her become clear, Brea must decide if she can trust the handsome prince who abducted her, or if she might be safer across the wastelands and swamps, in a land in desperate need of the magic she doesn’t know she has.

Prepare to lose yourself in this beautifully wicked epic fantasy with masterful world building, dark and twisty secrets, lies, and powerful magic—and devastatingly handsome fae princes.

    Queens of the Fae (Omnibus)
    by M. Lynn & Melissa A. Craven

This audiobook contains the first three books in the Queens of the Fae series, (Fae's Deception, Fae's Defiance, and Fae's Destruction). This is the story of Brea Robinson, a teenager who has been different her entire life, sent to mental institutions for telling people she saw strange things, and for her anger, lashing out and hurting her parents and her best friend, which gets her arrested for murder.

But sitting in the jail cell a man with violet eyes takes her through a portal into the world everyone has told her was all in her mind.

The story began a little slow, but it picked up and the audio narrator was really good. There is action, romance, betrayal, funnies, and morals. And while there is sexuality and battles, they are not too graphic so it's appropriate for mature readers 16 and over. There were some nice descriptions, though I don't feel the 'Fae' aspects of the characters were described enough, or in in-depth detail. They were there, but just not enough to keep the picture of them being Fae (different) in the mind's eye.

The only thing I don't like is that the books were short, and if bought, I feel they cost a little too much a piece for the page count. (I wouldn't buy these for the prices they are each listed at, and that is including the omnibus. Happily, it was included with my Scribd Subscription. But this didn't affect my opinions of the book itself.)

I almost didn't listen to this book. I was going to, but changed my mind, then had random.org pick my next read, and out of the 1000+ books I have on my want-to-read list, this one was picked, number matching right up.

This is not high-end literature. The authors actually bring up high-end literature in the beginning which serves to highlight how immature the writing is.

The narrator does a pretty decent job. She is good at giving each character a different voice but it must not have gone through finally editing because there are several misspoken words like “shoulder” for “soldier” and incorrect character names used. Once the character isn’t present but yet still speaking. It’s just a bit confusing. I’m not sure if this is the narrator or if the books themselves didn’t go through a proofreading process. There are maybe a dozen weird errors that pull the listener out of the story.

Overall, I listened to the entire thing and didn’t get the urge to turn it off and found it moderately distracting while working. It’s not a terrible story line but it’s also not one that draws you in. I don’t think I could have sat to read them though. They are decent as a distraction but not something you want to be enveloped by.

This was actually batter than I thought it would be. The character development was great and the 3rd book was the best of them all. You really get emotionally attached to the characters

This story had potential, but there are many problems with these books, the biggest of which is the irrational protagonist who acts time and time again against not only her own interests, but also against the interests of an entire world (and then some). She does so without considering anything beyond the immediate situation, seeming to refuse to think with logic even in concert with the desires of her heart, largely without sense and often completely without logic. It makes her read like a puerile, senseless child and it caused me to step away somewhere between the second and third book. You might be thinking, "Exactly! She's just a teenager...", but I think that would be denying so many young females who have wonderful heads on their shoulders who are capable of making enormously important decisions. With regards to the narrator, I think she did a very good job overall, but I also found the male voices a bit grating, although it can't be easy trying to voice another gender. Her voice for Queen Reagan was done exceptionally well along with the other Queens, but I also wish that Bree's voice wasn't made to sound so human (even at the end of the book) that she comes off a bit crass. Certainly, bringing her human-like qualities to her new home makes for many great possibilities in the story, but she would have certainly grown over the three books and as a result, she also would have been a more grown up sounding woman (even young woman) somewhere along the way and certainly by the end. You may love this book and you'll likely know a few chapters in. So, if it interests you, give it a read because even with my critiques it's not a bad series of books and even I think there are positives. Besides the fact that not every piece of art will be mine or your cup of tea and you should make up your own mind as well. Happy Reading!
