- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I was sad to say goodbye to the characters…they will stay with me.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This was the darkest of the 5 books in this series, and the saddest. I wish the author had made a different choice with where she took it - it was unnecessary and kind of cruel, especially in a relatively light type of mystery series.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I have absolutely loved this series of books. I loved them so much that I told my youngest daughter about them and she will be starting them too. Each book had its own unique experiences and that has kept me intrigued with what would happen in the next book. Thanks for writing.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I just LOVE Kat and Mouse, Nan (and amazing septuagenarian) Doris, and good, young and handsome Luke, and just couldn't wait to know how their stories ended. That said, as a Christian I've found that themes have become more problematic, and plot lines darker and sadder, as the series has progressed.
The writing is still amazing with lovely humorous bits, and the descriptions take me straight to an England I hope to see some day, but how I wish for old fashioned family values and faith, to receive the weight they so deserve, (and obviously so, when one is exposed to a truly beautiful, imperfect but committed, marriage, based on the truth found in God's Word, and on serving and loving the Lord and all those around, both those we agree with, and those we don't), together. What a joy it's been to know and learn from couples who have fought to remain faithful through the years, and whose marriages have become burnished and beautiful, surviving both the good times and the incredibly hard, with tenderness, growth, and the understanding that results from such unwavering commitment.
Kindness, respect, gratefulness, thoughtfulness, and care for those of all ages is portrayed beautifully among the main characters in this book, but alternative lifestyles play such a large role otherwise, especially in this particular story, that the good and true seem to take a back seat.
In this, book 4, of the Kat and Mouse mysteries, there were numerous murders, and while none were described in gory detail, the brutality of each case may be more than some will want to expose themselves to. Infidelity, betrayal, and cruelty run stronger in this tale than in any of the last, and I sure wouldn't recommend it to sensitive readers, or to anyone who might be upset to see a long-standing character killed. (Spoiler at the end of review).
Obviously life and culture has changed most everywhere, and it's well known that the overall culture of modern life in the UK has moved far from many of the tenants many people, and certainly Believers and followers of Jesus, hold true, and this rather captivating plot unfortunately reinforced that fact more than anything I've read (expecting a relatively benign cozy mystery, at least), so far.
This author is incredibly clever and talented, the narrator outstanding, and the story full of twists and turns that had me guessing all the way until the end...but the proliferation of F-words and ugly scenarios, will - very sadly - make this the last series by this author I'll read.
SPOILER:
None of our four beloved main characters perish. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Really sad to see this series come to an end
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This entire series was delightful! I don’t believe I have ever wanted to listen to or read a book more than once but these books were an exception.
Fun, wholesome, creative, unpredictable, and beautifully read. The only negative is there were only 5 books in the series. I would love an encore. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Good, but super dark & not as cosy as the other ones
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I thought it was too dark and sad for something listed as a cozy mystery. And the ending was out of nowhere. Perhaps it’s better as a read. Listening was infuriating. I never knew who was who.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book was definitely the best of the series. The story held joy and sadness and a bit of a shocker ending . Some of the things I thought about people in the book were right but not for the reasons I was think and some I was spot on about.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5What just happened? The motives were ridiculous and the end was odd to say the least. Also, this series was fun and had humor and feel good moments so what was the point of killing off such a great character especially with the last book??? No! I didn’t get it. Wish I would have stopped with the book before this one.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Fantastic Series!
I thoroughly enjoyed all 5 books in this series and am so grateful they didn’t stop at 3. I laughed and cried while listening and now have another favorite author ? - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Love these characters so much enjoyed the writing as well
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Fell into this series by accident and got hooked. Unfortunately, read them in the incorrect order but still became involved with the characters and their development. It was very pleasant to see a character of mature years, 70 +/-, who was healthy, vigorous, curious and loving. We are not all more or less vegetating once we retire! From an 84+ woman!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Just finished five books in this series. First time reading/listening to this author. Very well written! Very interesting and kept me guessing.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The characters are the best part. Story is fine, but the characters draw you in: Doris, always Doris, but Cat and Mouse, definitely Luke, Tessa and Hannah, and the others in the supporting cast. And the narrator is wonderful, with clearly distinctive voices, voices that are clearly just right for their characters. I’m sorry if this is the end of the line, but it’s been a great run.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Great read. Loved the twist and turn of the plot. The surprise ending of the characters.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Just as good as an Agatha Christie mystery, full of character and intrigue. A series to be enjoyed.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I loved this book! Great relatable characters, and well put together story!

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Enjoyed this series. Too predictable early on. Would have been better if the later red herring suspect would have been the murderer.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Great series, love the sassy grandma most. They should get a dog I think
