Description
Texas football has started to make its return to the Forty Acres as the Longhorns prepare to begin voluntary summer workouts leading up to fall camp. But the protocols the players are going through this summer look far different than in previous years.
The Longhorns’ return to practice includes players being tested for coronavirus upon arrival in addition to extensive education on how to safely co-exist with COVID-19.
In this week's episode of The Flagship Podcast, Horns247 columnist Chip Brown and managing editor Taylor Estes open the show with some of the latest headlines over the last week, including detailed insight into the Longhorns’ return to campus, how the NCAA is working on plans to have an extended fall camp period, which could begin in mid-July and Tom Herman and the Longhorns’ continued response to racial injustice.
The Flagship then welcomes in a very special guest this week in former Longhorn and current roster member of the Houston Texans Charles Omenihu. The 2018 Big 12 Defensive Lineman of the Year winner opens up on both the NFL and nation’s response to the tragic death of George Floyd. Omenihu weighs in on several other topics, including his thoughts on Longhorns who could be poised for a monster season, what he likes about Bill O’Brien and how he took it upon himself to reach out to former Texas receiver Collin Johnson after he was drafted in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
Chip and Taylor then kickoff the 'Love it or Leave it' segment, as this week's topics include if people are sleeping on Keaontay Ingram with all of the younger talent available at running back, how Herman’s message has been received throughout the recent protests and if the Longhorns have another Big 12 D-Lineman of the year candidate on this year’s team.
The Flagship Podcast — featuring co-hosts Chip Brown and Taylor Estes with Horns247 publisher Bobby Burton as a frequent contributor — hits the airwaves each Wednesday, and centers around all the latest happenings surrounding the University of Texas and college athletics, with big-name guests joining the show on a weekly basis.
