Description

Texas is inching closer and closer to the start of preseason camp as the Longhorns approach an ever-important 2020 football season. But what will happen for Texas, particularly at linebacker, if some of the Longhorns who have publicly stated they won't represent the University of Texas this season?
On this week's episode of The Flagship Podcast, Horns247 columnist Chip Brown and managing editor Taylor Estes break down the latest news surrounding the Longhorns as they prepare for the upcoming football season. Chip and Taylor open the show with the news of the week coming down Tuesday when the State Fair of Texas announced its cancellation amid COVID-19 concern though the annual Red River Shootout remains as scheduled. But without the fair going on at the same time, the 2020 edition of the Red River Shootout will have a much different feel than previous years.
Chip and Taylor then turn their focus to the latest going on with linebacker DeMarvion Overshown, who has yet to return to campus for voluntary workouts after he publicly stated he will not participate in team activities. With the linebacker position already being one of concern, Chris Ash and the defensive staff may have to work overtime to figure out how to properly fill the depth at LB, which was already an issue last season and was a significant reason for the struggles on defense in 2019.
The Flagship then transitions to its weekly 'Love it or Leave it' segment, with this week's topics including if the Ivy League's likely decision to move football to spring will have any impact on the Power 5 conferences, what type of accolades the Texas defense can achieve with a veteran unit returning to the team and how the volleyball's decision to move games to the Erwin Center will change the home court advantage the Longhorns have inside Gregory Gym.
Catch all of that and more on this week's episode of The Flagship Podcast.
The Flagship Podcast — featuring co-hosts Chip Brown and Taylor Estes with Horns247 publisher Bobby Burton as a frequent contributor — hits the airwaves each Wednesday, and centers around all the latest happenings surrounding the University of Texas and college athletics, with big-name guests joining the show on a weekly basis.
