Description

The Big 12 Conference officially announced its plans to move forward with a 10 game schedule for the 2020 season — nine conference games and one non-conference opponent. The announcement came down earlier this week after the Big 12 board of directors voted on the 2020 scheduling model, which now removes two of the more difficult non-conference opponents from the Longhorns' schedule this season in LSU and South Florida.
On this week's episode of The Flagship Podcast, Horns247 columnist Chip Brown and managing editor Taylor Estes dive in to the Big 12's scheduling decision and how the move will impact Texas in 2020. One major change the decision will cause is the Longhorns' non-conference opponent, which according to Chip's reporting, will be UTEP rather than South Florida as an effort to keep the away team travel money in the UT System of schools.
The hosts also discuss the Longhorns' most recent safety measures for home football games as University of Texas officials continue to finalize plans for the upcoming season, including taking a hard look at a 25 percent fan capacity inside Darrell K Royal - Texas Memorial Stadium, and when to expect an announcement on the start of fall camp for Big 12 teams.
The Flagship then shifts its focus to our weekly 'Love it or Leave it' segment, with this week's topics including the toughest game on the Longhorns' schedule, how the injury to Oklahoma middle linebacker Caleb Kelly could impact the Sooners' Big 12 title chances, if the Power Five conference schedule changes actually benefits the Big 12 since it already plays a round-robin, nine conference game schedule each season and more.
Catch all of that and much more on this week's episode of The Flagship Podcast.
