Description

While the start of the 2020 college football season remains up in the air, many administrators across the country seem to be gaining confidence for the potential of the season beginning as scheduled. Among those administrators is Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby. The Big 12 Commissioner's original stance on the matter seemed less than positive a month or so ago, but as states have begun to reopen after being shut down for weeks to help flatten the COVID-19 curve, Bowlsby's tone has changed to a more positive one when he told reporters he is "bullish" that the season will begin around Labor Day, as it is currently planned after the spring Big 12 meetings between conference officials and athletic directors wrapped up late last week.
In this week's episode of The Flagship Podcast, Horns247 columnist Chip Brown and managing editor Taylor Estes open the show with some of the latest headlines over the last week, including the latest coming out of Big 12 spring meetings and how the recent comments by the league's commissioner should be viewed as a positive step in the right direction leading up to the start of the college football season, Tom Herman's response to racial injustice and breaking down the 2020 Big 12 Sportsperson of the Year in Texas guard Andrew Jones.
The Flagship then welcomes in a very special guest this week in University of Texas Vice President of Diversity and Engagement Dr. Leonard Moore, who works on a consistent basis with Texas student-athletes and very closely with the Longhorns' football players. Dr. Moore addresses the response to the tragic death of George Floyd at the hands of a Minneapolis police officer, his thoughts on the statements college coaches across the country are making in the aftermath of the tragedy and his message in working with student-athletes at the University of Texas.
Chip and Taylor then kickoff the 'Love it or Leave it' segment, as this week's topics include former Texas QB Shane Buechele landing on the cover of Dave Campbell Texas Football Magazine one year after Sam Ehlinger, the Longhorns once again going to the Australian Prockick Academy for punters after landing the commitment of Isaac Pearson, if Andrew Jones was the most deserving of the 2020 Sportsperson of the Year Award and Matthew McConaughey's impact as an investor in the new Texas basketball arena.
The Flagship Podcast — featuring co-hosts Chip Brown and Taylor Estes with Horns247 publisher Bobby Burton as a frequent contributor — hits the airwaves each Wednesday, and centers around all the latest happenings surrounding the University of Texas and college athletics, with big-name guests joining the show on a weekly basis.
