Description

It's been far from a boring week around the University of Texas after black student athletes submitted their requests for changes on campus to make the Longhorns' home more equal for black students. Included in the list of demands was the removal of several statues, changing facility names, renaming buildings on campus, among many other requests. However, one of the most significant requests was the student-athletes asking to end their requirement of participating in the Eyes of Texas due to some racial overtones from when the song was debuted.
In this week's episode of The Flagship Podcast, Horns247 columnist Chip Brown and managing editor Taylor Estes weigh in on the player's demands for change at Texas, including their stance on the situation surrounding the Eyes of Texas. The hosts also discuss some other news, including the positive COVID-19 tests after Texas welcomed back a large group of football players to campus to begin voluntary summer workouts and how the Longhorns have added more depth back to the receiver room with redshirt freshman wide receiver Kennedy Lewis making his return to the team from his spring semester suspension.
Taylor and Chip then welcome in a very special guest in former Texas deep snapper and US Army Green Beret Nate Boyer, whose meeting with former 49ers QB Colin Kapernick led to Kap kneeling for the National Anthem rather than sitting on the bench. Boyer weighs in on the black student-athletes requests for change at the University of Texas and gives his thoughts on racial injustice in this country in the aftermath of George Floyd's death at the hands of a Minneapolis police officer. As always, we thank Nate Boyer for his service to our country in defending the freedoms we have each and every day.
Taylor and Chip close out the show with their weekly 'Love it or Leave it' segment, with this week's topics including the impact of Lewis' return to the team, is the Eyes of Texas should forever go into retirement and if the Longhorns two recent commitments — four-star safety JD Coffey and four-star cornerback Ishmael Ibraheem — brought in the best news for Texas since the start of 2020.
Catch all of that and more on this week’s episode of The Flagship Podcast.
The Flagship Podcast — featuring co-hosts Chip Brown and Taylor Estes with Horns247 publisher Bobby Burton as a frequent contributor — hits the airwaves each Wednesday, and centers around all the latest happenings surrounding the University of Texas and college athletics, with big-name guests joining the show on a weekly basis.
