Autophagy is a key process that helps keep your cells in balance. It's like you’re recycling those cells. The term autophagy comes from the Latin word, meaning self-eating. It's the process of breaking down parts of your cells in order to recycle them in the creation of new cells. If you’re going to get a chemical peel you’re basically killing the cells so your body can remake new cells. The idea is that you’re disrupting the normal process and causing your body to create new cells, this is why intermittent fasting works for aging.
