Early on during the Covid pandemic, I had the privilege of working as a Non-emergency Transport driver, providing transportation services to individuals facing significant health challenges. It was truly an honor for me to be able to assist those in need, including some who unfortunately required our services for their final journey. Engaging in heartfelt conversations with good people about their personal struggles and life-altering experiences has given me a profound perspective that I wouldn't have gained otherwise. Realizing that many of the individuals I interacted with were dealing with varying levels of anxiety, I felt inspired to educate myself on relevant studies, such as Epidemiology and Neurobiology. This led me to pursue certification as a Master Practitioner in Neuro-Linguistic Programming, specializing in helping people overcome anxiety.     Introduction

    Anxiety affects 4 percent of the world's population, which translates to around 301 million people around the world, and these figures include children as young as 3 years old! [1] (Javaid et al., 2023).

    For many, anxiety presents itself as a feeling of occasional but gripping fear, dread, and uneasiness. For others, such intense, excessive, persistent, and ongoing feelings lead to an impaired ability to perform everyday routine activities.

    In other words, anxiety can take over your life and interfere with your ability to make decisions and live a fulfilled life, and this is where NLP comes in.

    Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) provides powerful insights into managing anxiety. As Frankl (1962) once said,[2]

    Our thesis is simple: NLP is a unique toolkit that offers individuals the means to break free from the grip of incapacitating fears and debilitating worry by demystifying the intricate dance between the mind and anxiety.

    At its core, this book serves as a guide, a toolkit you need to take charge of your mental well-being. It has a twofold purpose: to enlighten and to empower.

    Clarify Your Purpose and Values

    You've undoubtedly heard people say that you need to set goals to fulfill your dreams. But what if your very value system was flawed due to the circumstances of your life? In such a case, you'd learn to lower your expectations and accept things simply because you feel like you have no right to expect more. This adds to your anxiety since it makes you question everything.

    NLP digs deep into your current values and how they drive your behavior and trains you to shift your thinking and go for what you really want.

    NLP allows you to access resources from your past and create new resources you can use to navigate life with confidence both now and in the future.

    Develop Strategies for Problem-Solving

    How many responsibilities/things do you have to deal with?

    If your answer is a lot, you have a reason to be anxious, especially if you do not have a strong support system. NLP teaches you how to pull back, pause, and take a closer look at your situation. This allows you to break problems into manageable chunks and adopt positive thinking.

    Break Behavioral Patterns

    More often than not, the things you do can and do affect your anxiety levels. NLP alerts you to unproductive behavioral patterns and teaches you how to break such patterns once and for all.

    Manage Difficult People

    As much as we may want to pretend otherwise, the people in your life can be your greatest source of anxiety. As such, learning to get along with them or deal with them will go a long way toward lessening your anxiety. NLP teaches you how to do that and helps you connect with and cooperate with such people.

    Deal with Pain

    One thing NLP does well is teach you to listen to your body's signals. Many don't realize we are in awful situations until we are ready to snap. By listening to your body, you will be able to recognize the symptoms of anxiety before they become overwhelming, and in time, you will learn to take care of yourself to prevent such symptoms.

    As you can see, by using NLP, you will gain valuable insights into the intricacies of your thought patterns and learn to unravel the knots of anxiety with both precision and purpose.
