About this ebook

In this book, Professor Fomum delves into the transformative essence of faith—the kind of faith that propels believers into action. By drawing from biblical examples like Naaman, the Syrian army general, and Saul of Tarsus turned Apostle Paul, the author illustrates the profound impact of acting on one's faith. Naaman's obedience to the prophet's word resulted in miraculous healing, while Saul's conversion showcased a total commitment to faith in action.

Throughout the book, testimonies affirm the life-changing power of faith—individuals saved, healed, delivered from afflictions, and undergoing radical transformations. Our earnest prayer is that, as you immerse yourself in these pages, you not only cultivate faith in the Lord Jesus Christ but also actively live out your convictions. May the words of the Lord resonate within you: "It will be done just as you believed it would."

May the Lord bless and reach out to you as you journey through these pages.

    GENERAL NAAMAN

    The Leper

"Now Naaman was commander of the army of the king of Aram. He was a great man in the sight of his master and highly regarded, because through him the Lord had given victory to Aram. He was a valiant soldier, but he had leprosy. Now bands from Aram had gone out and had taken captive a young girl from Israel, and she served Naaman's wife. She said to her mistress, If only my master would see the prophet who is in Samaria! He would cure him of his leprosy. Naaman went to his master and told him what the girl from Israel had said. By all means, go, the king of Aram replied. I will send a letter to the king of Israel. So Naaman left, taking with him ten talents of silver, six thousand shekels of gold and ten sets of clothing. The letter that he took to the king of Israel read: With this letter I am sending my servant Naaman to you so that you may cure him of his leprosy. As soon as the king of Israel read the letter, he tore his robes and said, Am I God? Can I kill and bring back to life? Why does this fellow send someone to me to be cured of his leprosy? See how he is trying to pick a quarrel with me! When Elisha the man of God heard that the king of Israel had torn his robes, he sent him this message: Why have you torn your robes? Have the man come to me and he will know that there is a prophet in Israel. So Naaman went with his horses and chariots and stopped at the door of Elisha's house. Elisha sent a messenger to say to him, Go, wash yourself seven times in the Jordan, and your flesh will be restored and you will be cleansed. But Naaman went away angry and said, I thought that he would surely come out to me and stand and call on the name of the Lord his God, wave his hand over the spot and cure me of my leprosy. Are not Abana and Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than any of the waters of Israel? Couldn't I wash in them and be cleansed? So he turned and went off in a rage. Naaman's servants went to him and said, My father, if the prophet had told you to do some great thing, would you not have done it? How much more, then, when he tells you, 'Wash and be cleansed'! So he went down and dipped himself in the Jordan seven times, as the man of God had told him, and his flesh was restored and became clean like that of a young boy"

    2 KINGS 5:1-12

Saviour, Healer, Deliverer! In the story that was read for us, they tell us about a man called Naaman, who was a commander in chief of the army of the king of Syria. Commander Naaman! Naaman must have been well educated in military art. He went to the best military academy of Syria. Wherever he went, he smashed military records. He was grounded in the theory and practice of military art. Educated, but he was not only educated, because some people think that education is having something in your head but not good in practice. I once found a jobless fellow, and I said, Ah, who are you? He said, I am Doctor this. I said, You have a doctorate in what? He said, I have a doctorate in economics. I said, And you can’t find a job? What did you study?

No, Naaman was different. Wherever he went, the enemy suffered loss. He went north and smashed, he went south and smashed. General Naaman! I could imagine that his military uniform was full of medals and honours. General Naaman! Obviously, he had honour, position and money. I imagine many women saying, O, I wish I could be Mrs Naaman, then I will appear with my husband and I will have a lot of money, a lot of money and I will have prestige and people will woo my presence because of my money, because of my position. And Naaman was in the presence of the king. If the story ended only there, Naaman would be the most sought after man on earth; the most admired.

The Bible says, He was a valiant soldier, but he had leprosy. He was a leprous man. Suddenly, all becomes dark. Educated leper, a rich leper, an honoured leper, leper, leper. Suddenly, no one wanted to be associated with Naaman. Suddenly, women said, What a shame! What a pain! What anguish could it be, to be Mrs Naaman. Suddenly his diplomas meant nothing, his honours meant nothing. Naaman was a leper. The leprosy started as a spot; increasingly other spots came forth. I could imagine that Naaman had gloves on his fingers and clothes all over and he was all covered because when he moved like that, people thought that everything was fine. O Naaman was a leper and the leprosy was increasing, and the leprosy was increasing. Before people, Naaman covered everything up. But when he was alone, Naaman was compelled to take off the clothes and be naked alone. When he had to bathe and look at himself in the mirror, he would remember that he was a dying man. With time the spots of leprosy increased in dimension and new ones appeared. He knew that in time, his fingers will drop. He foresaw that the end was not far. O, there was anguish inside, there was anguish for him and there was anguish for his wife. It was painful. Naaman was a leper.

    SPIRITUAL LEPROSY

But there is leprosy in the world. Not just biological leprosy, but there is the leprosy of sin. Sin is a kind of leprosy. Sin is spiritual leprosy. It may be lying. You may be a liar. It may be stealing. Maybe you steal meat from the pot, you steal 25 CFA, 50 CFA, 100CFA from your mum’s purse in order to have something to eat at school. You may be a husband and you steal from your wife’s purse. One man told me, I was so bound by theft that I stole from my wife’s purse. Maybe you steal from your husband’s purse. You steal where you work. Maybe when a person’s chicken strays into your compound, that is its grave. You eat and say, God has blessed me. A thief of cocks, a thief of hens! Maybe you steal bulbs. You steal, you steal radios. Maybe you were working somewhere and your boss gave you something and you said you will pay afterwards and he forgot. You just sat over it and you have not paid. You still keep it, but he forgot. I am not responsible for his forgetting you say. Thief, thief, thief! You need money for a project, your office gives you the money. Maybe they gave you a million, you finished the project with 950.000 CFA; you just pocketed the rest. You say, The goat feeds where it is tied. Thief, thief, thief! The leprosy of theft. Are you a thief? Are you a thief? Are you a thief? I
