    Introduction

Welcome to How to Network. In this world, who you know matters immensely. Careers and success are all about who you know and what they can do for you, and this is exactly why one of the biggest keys to professional success is networking. Through networking, you can find new jobs or find people that can help you to achieve whatever you have set out to do. It can help you find new investors or customers. It can help you find people that could even become long-term clients. Through networking, you will be able to get those great professionals—and it all happens simply and organically.

But, to get that point of organic growth and relationship building, you have some serious considerations to make, and perhaps the biggest of them all is figuring out how to get started. If you are shy or simply unfamiliar with the process, networking can seem intimidating. It can seem terrifying to go up to people who are clearly more experienced in the industry that you are in. It can be difficult to ask random people to provide you with those connections or to build up that rapport over time. However, it doesn’t have to be as scary as you think it is. If you want to be able to build up a good network, you can do so with just a few simple steps.

Networking might not come naturally to us all, especially to those who are shyer, but one thing is true: Networking is a skill that can be learned. It’s something that you can use to build up relationships with people that are beneficial. However, it is not about what they can do for you—it is about paving a two-way street. Networking is all about making sure that both of you are able to provide for each other. It is all about being able to ensure that both of you are capable of giving to each other and making sure that you both feel confident and competent in the situation that you are in. Networking should be one of those things that you both walk away from feeling good about. It should allow both of you to feel a bit better knowing that you have someone else to contact if you need it.

Within this guide, we are going to discuss what you will need to do to get started with networking with ease. It is something that you can learn to do to build your confidence and begin to feel more stable and comfortable professionally. All you have to do is step out, get to know some people, and take a chance. If you can commit to that, you can commit to making real, meaningful change and progress in your own personal networks. Whether you are new to the field or simply shy and looking to find some networking, this guide is for you.

Anyone can learn to network appropriately—you just have to be willing to put yourself out there, even if it is little by little. You can even start slowly and network with your friends and family before expanding, little by little. You can actually greatly expand your horizons just through these connections that you may not have even realized that you had.

    Let’s get started!

Chapter 1: Step 1 - Identify Your Contacts

Almost all adults that work will need some degree of networking. If you are in the workforce, you will need to be able to connect to other people. You will need allies on your side that will help you to make those good connections and help you to get what you need. The market is competitive, and the sooner that you are able to make those important, meaningful changes, the sooner you will be able to successfully navigate as well. All you will need to do is ensure that you are on the right track.

    Where to Start?

However, if you are just starting out or don’t know what you are doing, you might not know what to do. You might not know where to go or who to ask for help, and that is a major problem. Networks and relationships with people will help you and are among some of the most important aspects of your professional career. You want to have these connections with people—but to start, you have to reach out in the first place. Now, some people are simply lucky and will run into people who can help. Others have enough rapport and social standing that people approach them instead. If you are just starting out,
