    Introduction

Welcome to How to Change Careers. Did you know that the average person goes through between five and seven career changes during the course of their lifetime? And, as more and more types of jobs are created, and the number of options continues to grow as well, the average workforce sees roughly 30% of people changing careers or jobs within every 12-month period. This means that there is an awful lot of job-hopping going on—are you a part of it? Are you one of the people that go from job to job? Or are you someone who needs a change?

You might be in a position where the money that you earn is no longer enough to sustain you any longer. Or perhaps you need a job that offers better benefits, or you want a better work-life balance. There are many reasons that people choose to change careers, and they are all valid. If you want a career change, you can do it, and no, it is never too late to do it! Very few jobs actually require you to be within a certain age range, and that means that you’ve got options. Even if you feel like you might not, you have different options that you can utilize that will help you to succeed.

You might be ready for a career change for all sorts of reasons. Maybe your life is different now—you might have children that you didn’t have when you got into that job that required you to travel for two months out of the year. You might realize that your job is in a dying field with a negative outlook and realize that you need to change it up if you want to be able to pay the bills. You could be burnt out and simply need to do something new after a while. This is especially prevalent if you work in a career that is exhausting or emotionally toll-heavy. Perhaps your job just doesn’t pay enough as well. No matter what, however, the solution is the same: You need a new career.

If you need that new career, you might feel lost. You might not even know what kind of career to pursue. But, one thing is true: you can figure it out if you know what you are doing, and this guide is here to help you with that. As you go through this, you will discover the keys to helping yourself choose out and pursue a new career. You will see that there are many ways that you can start to consider what would be best for you. You will be able to start to see how you can better yourself. You will learn about how to identify your own strengths so you can start figuring out what kinds of careers will be right for you. You will get advice on how to dip your feet into these career options that you might want to consider, as well as how to continue on and make it official, all the way up to the application stage.

    Let’s get started!

Chapter 1: Step 1 - Identify Your Skills, Strengths, and Interests

A career change is a serious consideration to make, especially if you are going to jump to something that will require you to have any significant amount of schooling or licensing. Changing careers can also require you to relocate or to start changing up your lifestyle. It is not always an easy choice to make, but figuring out how to make it is something that you may need to face if you are certain that you are done with your old career.

    Important Considerations

Before you commit yourself to changing up your life, however, there are some very important considerations that you owe it to yourself to consider. You owe it to yourself to figure out if you want to change careers and what careers may be right for you. You owe it to yourself to figure out how you can better meet the needs that you have. You owe it to yourself to figure out how you can begin to make real progress. You also owe it to yourself to find a career that is meaningful for you and will prevent you from feeling that burn of burnout again in the future. You must do this for yourself to prevent you from winding right back up in that position of wanting a career change but not knowing
